Warm welcome. I'm a EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, BACP Accred. Counsellor and Supervisor. Choosing a therapist with whom to connect and build a trusting therapeutic relationship can feel daunting, even risky, yet also empowering and hopeful. What does it feel like to take off masks, shedding protective layers that keep the authentic, vulnerable self safe while navigating through challenging or traumatic times? Together we can explore what you feel ready and safe to share - whether these are current, buried or almost forgotten experiences.

I have worked with the queer community for over 10 years.
I often collaborate with people who define as highly sensitive, neurodivergent or alternative in some way. You may think, feel and experience the world differently and that can come with huge ups and downs. Perhaps you look around and wonder how everyone else seems to be holding it together when you feel and think so deeply. Perhaps you get stuck in patterns of thinking and behaving that no longer help. I get it - life is often messy, unpredictable, and confusing, and at times it can feel like the cliff of overwhelm and burnout looms large. Curious about change in your life, work and relationships? Then lets connect!

It feels like a really hard time to be queer and/or trans at the moment, I'm here to hold you and have understanding and experience.
My lived experience as a queer, non-monogamous person lends itself to a deeper understanding and empathy of the experiences of queer ( LGBTQ+) and non-monogamous (inc. polyamorous) people. Maybe you wish to explore your gender identity, how you’re perceived in the world or explore different relationship styles. I am also kink-aware and sex positive.

With over a decade of experience in private practice and the NHS, I work with both individuals and couples seeking deeper healing, self-understanding, and meaningful change. Clients I work with tend to come to therapy at important life and relationship junctions - navigating trauma, anxiety, overwhelm, or a growing sense that old patterns no longer fit who they are becoming. My approach is holistic, relational, and trauma-informed, integrating body-mind awareness through my background in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. At the baseline, I offer a sounding board; a space that can help you grow, overcome, stabilise, and unfold safely.

Do your feelings overwhelm you? Is it hard to stay in control? Are you unkind to yourself? I understand how hard it is to ask for help. Untangling a lifetime of feelings and thoughts can be daunting, but with the right support you can identify those limiting patterns and change the beliefs, feelings, and responses holding you back from the life you want and the person you want to be. Choice comes from understanding yourself, then making the right changes. I understand how hard it can be to do that on your own. I will be with you on that journey, supporting and empowering you to move from self-awareness to real, lasting change

I am Daniel Morrison and I want to support you in whatever you’re going through. I believe that everyone has the capacity to change, or to embrace the changes that are happening in their life. Counselling is a space which is just for you, to speak about whatever is present in your life right now and be heard. We can explore your patterns, your stories, what’s working for you and where you’d like things to be different. I offer talking therapy and EMDR online and in person in Hebden Bridge.

Do you find yourself being hard on yourself? Do you feel pressure to get things right? Does this leave you feeling low or doubting yourself? I have over 10 years’ experience in NHS therapy services. Over the years, I’ve seen how harsh we can be with ourselves, and how quickly we can slip into pushing ourselves down instead of offering the care we actually need. I often work with people experiencing: • Low mood and low self confidence • Trauma • Difficulties in relationships with themselves or others I provide a safe, affirming space for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

As a member of the community, I provide a welcoming and supportive space for LGBTQ individuals, addressing issues related to gender, sexuality and relationship diversity.
Speaking with someone for the first time about personal issues or trauma can feel really daunting. It is important to feel safe and not judged when talking about difficult things, and my aim is for us to develop a relationship where you can explore whatever it is that you need to. There is not an exhaustive list of the reasons for coming to counselling initially but one thing is sure and that is it begins with building trust and beginning to speak openly. Our sessions will be collaborative: I will facilitate, but you will lead the way. Even if you can't pin point why things feel difficult, you're not alone.

You might be LGBTQIA+, still carrying the quiet cost of years spent not quite fitting.
I work bilingually, in English and French, using Gottman-method couples therapy and neuroqueer-affirming individual work. Sessions are not about fixing you. They are about finding you. We move at your pace, in a safe space with everything you bring until the life you stopped allowing yourself to want starts to feel genuinely possible.

I specialise in working with: LGBTQIA+ adults, neurodivergent adults, eating disorders, supporters/families of above.
I often work with people who have tried therapy and got told they were self aware but didn't find it very useful. During sessions we may predominantly talk through things, or we may incorporate other forms of expression like art, poetry, or music to access and help to incorporate your emotional and logical self.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
