Hello, and well done for taking the first step. Reaching out for support is often the hardest part. I can offer an initial 15 min call, if requested, to see if I am the right fit for you. I am here to offer kindness, compassion, and sensitivity to whatever you may bring. As an HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist, I have experience supporting individuals with a wide range of psychological difficulties across both NHS and private settings. I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including relational, psychodynamic, person-centred, CBT, compassion-focused therapies, and I am trained in EMDR for complex trauma.

Warm welcome. I'm a EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, BACP Accred. Counsellor and Supervisor. Choosing a therapist with whom to connect and build a trusting therapeutic relationship can feel daunting, even risky, yet also empowering and hopeful. What does it feel like to take off masks, shedding protective layers that keep the authentic, vulnerable self safe while navigating through challenging or traumatic times? Together we can explore what you feel ready and safe to share - whether these are current, buried or almost forgotten experiences.

Are you facing challenges in your life that feel overwhelming? Would you like to change how things are, or gain a better understanding of what is going on for you? Perhaps what you are experiencing is due to a relationship, something to do with your job or studies, a bereavement or other loss, or something less definable - perhaps just a sense that something is not right for you. Maybe it is connected to neuro-diversity, low self esteem, depression or anxiety. Whatever your difficulty is, and no matter how big or small it seems to be, by looking for therapy, you are taking a positive step in your life.

I specialise in bereavement, cancer and menopause - times when life can feel unrecognisable.
Perhaps you've been holding everything together for so long that you've forgotten what it feels like not to. Maybe a diagnosis, a loss, caring responsibilities, the fog of menopause or reaching burnout has finally made that impossible. I'm Kate - a counsellor who understands these experiences both professionally and personally. You don't have to keep going the way you have been. This could be the moment you finally put yourself first, and I'd be honoured to walk alongside you.

” Many of my clients have struggled with the effects of cancer diagnosis, others grief or loss and some have become full time carers.
As someone who has experienced loss, I understand the impact of counselling to help you acknowledge and give space to those difficult thoughts and feelings that no one else understands. If you are struggling with loss through ill health, bereavement or disability (either as a carer or as a disabled person) then I can help you to find a way forward.

I've worked with individuals with complex emotional struggles, trauma, low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, and loss and I have particular experience of working therapeutically with individuals with life changing illness and cancer.
My approach is for us to work together to understand how the way you think, feel, and act today is influenced by your previous life experiences. By working together to bring awareness and understanding of the root cause of your difficulties, long lasting and meaningful change can be achieved.

Hi, I’m Anita, and I believe counselling can offer a calm, reflective space where you can begin to understand yourself more deeply and make sense of what you’re experiencing. People come to counselling for different reasons. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why things feel difficult. You might be facing a specific challenge, noticing old patterns repeating, or finding that past experiences are still shaping your present. Sometimes there’s a sense that something isn’t right, and you want space to explore it. You don’t need to arrive with the right words or know what you want to work on, we can begin wherever you are.

Do you feel trapped in uncertainty, overwhelmed with sadness, emotions or physical pain? Is anxiety holding you back and getting in the way of living well? Do you find it hard to express your own needs. Maybe not wanting to feel a burden, so often keep your worries to yourself. Or overly focussed on others needs, at the detriment of your self-care. Do you find yourself behaving in ways that are unlike a person you want to be, maybe snappy at loved ones or colleagues and critical of yourself? Together, we can create a safe space, to explore helpful ways to move forward, build resilience and live better.

How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counselling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
