If you are looking at this website, my guess is that there is an aspect of your life that needs attention. There are countless reasons why this might be the case. There may be a particular issue in the present day that you wish to address, such as your relationships, bereavement, addictions or depression. Or, you might feel haunted by unresolved issues from your past such as trauma, abuse or childhood experiences. Perhaps it is hard to name what is troubling you, yet you feel overwhelmed, or that your life is lacking meaning and purpose and it is hard to find any enjoyment.

Are you facing challenges in your life that feel overwhelming? Would you like to change how things are, or gain a better understanding of what is going on for you? Perhaps what you are experiencing is due to a relationship, something to do with your job or studies, a bereavement or other loss, or something less definable - perhaps just a sense that something is not right for you. Maybe it is connected to neuro-diversity, low self esteem, depression or anxiety. Whatever your difficulty is, and no matter how big or small it seems to be, by looking for therapy, you are taking a positive step in your life.

I believe the most important thing is to build a good relationship between counsellor and client, a relationship where you can feel secure, accepted, and heard. Through this relationship, awareness of how we feel  can be found and with that  a healthier way of managing our behaviours can be achieved.

Are you stuck, bewildered, unable to work out what is happening? Do you find that confiding with friends and family isn't necessarily that helpful? It may be time to explore with someone with a different approach what can change. Do you want to move out of a current pattern of thinking or behaving? I work with a solution focus in some sessions when the goal is to move an obstacle that is often our thinking and responding. I can offer an empathic and safe environment to work through life changes and transitions such as loss and grief, divorce or betrayal. I work especially well with shame based thoughts and behaviours.

My therapeutic approach is based on the belief that each of us carries within ourselves the wisdom and tools to initiate our own healing process, the therapeutic relationship then becomes a facilitation of a return to self. Through my own journey of recovery and successfully sustaining sobriety I have become a believer in being able to reinvent your life. To address addiction is often very difficult and takes incredible courage. But the gifts of recovery from addiction are tremendous. As your therapist I will quickly identify the causes, conditions and underlying concerns that are causing your pain.

Life can sometimes feel too much and you may find yourself struggling to cope and unable to manage work, relationships and family commitments as you have done previously. Coming to a place of acceptance that you need the help of someone else is a huge step in itself and reaching out for counselling can feel daunting and takes an immense amount of courage. Counselling provides an opportunity to speak to a trained mental health professional in confidence about the issues that are causing you the most emotional pain and marks the beginning of a journey that provides the opportunity to explore difficulties being experienced.

Hi! I'm Jonathan. Thank you for taking a look at my profile. I know that it's difficult to choose a psychologist, so here is a bit about me and if you'd like a chat before meeting, let me know! I recognise how important the therapeutic relationship is, so initial contact is about creating a safe space for us to work together. We will focus on your goals for therapy and develop a collaborative understanding of your story, and what may be contributing towards any difficulties. I am trained to work with a variety of difficulties from low mood, anxiety and adjustment to trauma, low esteem and family difficulties, amongst many others!

I am committed to supporting people in healing from relational trauma, developmental trauma, childhood trauma and interpersonal trauma of all kinds. Human beings are amazing, remarkable and resilient in our ability to cope with adversity. We often compartmentalise or dissociate what happens to us so we can carry on living. We also turn to all manner of addictions and behaviours that on the surface may seem disordered and destructive yet at the same time they make perfect sense. They protect us, help us to stay in control, help numb the pain, help us to survive, and help communicate our stories.

If you are struggling with relationships, loss, stress, or feeling lost and overwhelmed, you might feel like you’re stuck, don’t know where to turn or how to move forward. Sometimes we don’t know what to say, how to say it or even fully understand what we are feeling; it’s often not just one thing that we are feeling but a complex mix of different emotions. Our sessions together will give you the opportunity to be heard, to explore your emotions and unpick the difficulties you are having.

With years as a Buddhist monk and an MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health from King's College London, I bring rigorous evidence-based practice and profound embodied understanding. I'm pursuing a PhD in psychology and the therapeutic process. Suffering with mental health can feel overwhelming—going in circles, losing touch with your lifestyle, wondering if relief is possible. I integrate ancient contemplative wisdom with modern neuroscience to help clients create deep, lasting change. As an integrative psychotherapist, I work holistically—addressing thought patterns, emotional regulation, and embodied experience.

You may be feeling stuck in patterns you understand intellectually but can’t seem to shift. Perhaps anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or a deep sense of disconnection keeps looping no matter how much insight you gain. You might be high-functioning on the outside, yet internally exhausted, overwhelmed, or quietly carrying experiences that your nervous system never fully processed. Does this feel familiar? If you’ve talked it through, analysed it to death, and still find your body reacting like the threat never ended, you’re not broken — your nervous system is doing exactly what it learned to do.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
