Many of the people I work with have spent years feeling misunderstood, exhausted or disconnected from themselves. They may be autistic or otherwise neurodivergent, exploring whether neurodivergence explains lifelong experiences, or struggling with anxiety, burnout, trauma, masking, identity or major life transitions. They're looking for more than symptom relief, they want to understand themselves in a way that feels compassionate, respectful and meaningful, creating change that fits who they are rather than who they feel expected to be.

North-east clients - in-person, online via video or via mobile on weekdays and early evenings.
If you're not sure why you're here, then maybe I can help find out why. You may feel sad or confused, or you may just want to understand what's on your mind.  Therapy can help you explore the issues you are currently having.  Talking to a neutral, non-judgmental person can help you understand your feelings. My approach is flexible, which I believe helps meet the individual's desired outcomes.  I am gentle and self-effacing, and I offer a caring environment to help you openly share your process.

You can see me either online or in person.
When our relationships are troubled it can lead to feelings of uneasiness, anxiety or depression. Whether it's difficulties with or changes in relationships, or struggling with endings or new beginnings, it can help to talk to an impartial person to find some clarity. Sometimes change is driven by others, or maybe you need something to change but don't know the best way to go about it. Perhaps you’re finding that you’re stuck in a destructive communication pattern and feel like you’re going round in circles. Maybe you don’t really know what you want, but would like to find out. I can help.

People often find their way to therapy when something inside signals it's time for change- perhaps you're carrying pain that needs tending, feeling drained by life's demands, or sensing a quiet disconnect between who you are and how you're living. You might be seeking relief from specific struggles, or simply wanting to understand yourself more deeply. Therapy offers a gentle space where we can look honestly at your experiences, make room for difficult feelings, and explore new possibilities together.

If you think something in your past is continuing to impact you in a negative way. If you are constantly being triggered, if you have tried other talking therapies and are still being triggered, likelihood is that you have unresolved trauma and need EMDR. I have seen remarkable results in my clients in just a few sessions to really shift the feelings often trapped in the body. The feelings that put us on edge, make us jumpy and things we can't stop dreaming about and that keep us awake. Getting rid of these symptoms is what people want. I have years of experience in helping people with this and have seen the difference it makes.

Reduced rates available for in person CAT (£50) I am an EMDR therapist & Trainee CAT Practitioner.
I enjoy working with a variety of clients with a range of difficulties. However, I practically find it meaningful to work with early childhood trauma and to help clients be able to heal from those early emotional wounds that have impacted on their lives in a variety of ways, I find that many issues link to early childhood, even when clients describe their childhood as a good one with healthy relationships. However, I am open to working with clients in the way that feels most comfortable to them, and can be flexible and listen to their feedback on this.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
