I am a Person Centred and Humanistic Counsellor. This means I work from the belief that each client is an expert on themselves, knowing more about themselves than anyone else. I provide emotional safety and psychological support, in a calm environment where you will be valued and respected. By gaining clarity and perspective on what is troubling you right now, and with increased insight into your own internal world and how you interact with the world around you, your confidence in your ability to move forward in the right way for you will grow.

Firstly, well done for finding the courage to reach out for help and taking that first step which is crucial for transforming your life. Although challenges are an unavoidable part of our existence, we are often overwhelmed by them and psychologically unequipped to deal with what life throws at us. However, in that hardship there is always an opportunity for growth and healing, which I have experienced myself. As a result, I developed a great passion for helping others to find their way forward, and for the last 13 years have provided clients with various forms of support of which counselling has proved to be the most rewarding.

Life can become extremely tough at times and that can lead to the erosion of our sense of wellbeing. We may find ourselves feeling constantly fatigued; struggling to enjoy the things we used to, withdrawing from activities, feeling bleak about life, feeling anxious or having physical complaints such as being more frequently unwell and struggling with digestive issues or muscular aches and pains. These issues could suggest that stress is having an impact on your psychological wellbeing. It can often prove challenging to work out how you got from A to B and how to navigate a way back to A.

Hi, I am a registered psychologist with the HCPC. I have worked in the NHS for over sixteen years including children and adolescents, adults, EIS (psychosis) and also prison mental health, so my experience is pretty varied. I believe that everybody is different and as such work to help develop an understanding of what is going on for you, before exploring what intervention is likely to be the most effective. I also complete ASC assessments as part of a multi disciplinary team

Our past need not define our future. If you feel stuck, unhappy and are struggling to change, I can help. When in life we encounter distressing experiences our whole focus may be on surviving them. We can form patterns of thoughts and behaviour which help us cope, but which often continue unnoticed into our later lives. When these patterns of behaviour and relating remain our defaults, they may become obstacles to our future wellbeing. I offer a safe means to explore your thoughts and behaviours, to identify those which are unhelpful and to change, leaving behind obsolete past beliefs and behaviours to live the life you choose.

I am an accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, committed to providing an accepting and caring space for you to explore what you are struggling with. I have found that when you feel valued and understood by someone, you naturally become better at being able to offer that to yourself. I prioritise working to build trust, so I can be there to support you through painful and vulnerable moments. I believe that therapy can be a place where you get to explore parts of yourself that you might not often get to express. I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and sexual trauma.

COUNSELLING CAN HELP YOU TELL YOUR STORY… Our lives shape our stories… Sometimes these stories cause us to feel anxious, depressed, stressed, sad or confused. At times our life stories can make us feel stuck, frightened or even lead to trauma. Sometimes we are unsure why we experience difficulties in our relationships whether personal or professional. Counselling can help you make sense of why you think, feel and act as you do. It can bring insight into patterns of relating and ways of being. It can empower you to set goals and make changes to move your life forward. Telling your story can promote growth and healing.

How can I find a therapist in Dorset?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
