Feeling overwhelmed or stuck? I offer warm, thoughtful therapy for a wide range of difficulties, with particular experience in trauma, neurodivergence and menopause. I’m Caro, a BACP-registered integrative counsellor offering warm, compassionate therapy in Exeter, Dorchester and online. I work with adults aged 18+. Whatever is going on, you won’t be judged here. Therapy with me isn’t about being analysed from a distance or left sitting in silence. It’s a warm, thoughtful conversation where you can be honest about what’s really happening, even the messy parts.

I work with individuals and couples. Focusing on your own individual needs, we can work together to empower you to achieve your own goals. Whether or not you've had counselling before, it can be difficult to take the first step. You can be assured you will be met with a warm and non-judgmental approach and a safe space where you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and emotions, whatever the issues, even if those issues are not mentioned here. We are complex beings and not all of our issues fit neatly into one box! For me, the emphasis is about sitting alongside you and building a trusting relationship together.

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to shift no matter how much you try to think your way through them? Understanding can help, but it doesn’t always change how things feel day to day. You may have already tried to work things through on your own, but still feel stuck. In our work, we look at the patterns behind how you feel. Not just why they’re there, but how they continue to affect you. Talking therapy can help you explore and make sense of your experience. I also draw on CBT and EMDR, which work more directly with patterns, behaviours, and past experiences.

I’ve worked with clients with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, workplace and student stress, loss, bereavement, childhood issues including abuse, eating disorders, cancer rehabilitation, fertility, adoption, trauma, panic, anger and major life transitions.
Are you feeling that you need a supportive relationship to help with issues in your life? At different times in life we may feel overwhelmed, alone or stuck and it can help to talk in a non judgemental setting. You may be considering therapy for many reasons and the first step is to just make contact. This can bring feelings of nervousness but it can also be a very exciting moment. You can ask for the help and support you need. It’s very important that you feel completely comfortable with your counsellor, that they are a person you can share all of yourself with.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
