As a humanistic-integrative counsellor and supervisor+, I take the view that there is no single approach that can treat every client, in all situations. I therefore offer an approach to counselling that combines different elements of several specific therapies so as to enable me to provide the appropriate interventions for each individual. I believe each person is an 'unique whole' and counselling techniques are best tailored to fit the unique individuals needs and personal circumstances. It is of primary importance to me that I offer you highly confidential service based on you as an individual in your distinctive circumstances.

In 2015, when I qualified as a psychotherapist, I remember saying to my tutor, "I believe in all the theories. What kind of therapist do I need to become?" His answer was simple: "Integrative." He explained that being an integrative therapist wasn't simply about learning different theories. It meant continually exploring my own life, remaining open to new research and never stopping learning. I committed to that journey because I believed something very strongly: How could I ask clients to look deeply at themselves if I wasn't willing to do the same?

This is about you and I'm here to listen sensitively as we work together in a confidential setting so you feel you can talk openly and freely. It is about a therapeutic relationship as I offer emotional warmth and respect, encouraging you to explore what has brought you to counselling. To offer an empathic understanding is about you knowing I am on the journey with you making sense of what is happening but being guided by your direction of what is important for you to bring to the session.

I work with couples and individuals who feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in repeating patterns. Many struggle with communication, feeling misunderstood, or navigating differences, especially in neurodiverse relationships. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and explore new ways of relating. This helps create more understanding, emotional safety, and a stronger sense of connection, so you can move forward feeling more aligned and supported.

I'm Jon and welcome to Attached Counselling and Psychotherapy. We can all feel disconnected from the world around us, and even from ourselves. This may be represented in different ways: anxiety, depression, emotional distress, intrusive thoughts or unhelpful behaviours such as substance misuse or aggression. This can place strain on our day to day lives and affect our relationships with others. If this is pattern you recognise - maybe I can help?

Our need for human closeness can bring joy, but also be a source of distress. When relationships are troubled, you may feel anxious, depressed, disconnected or 'grown a part', unsure how to move forward or 'going round in circles'. You might need a safe, compassionate space to explore your feelings, heal wounds, gain clarity and feel secure and connected again. Whether you’re hoping to improve communication, rebuild trust, or decide on the future of a relationship, I’m here to help by offering a supportive space where you can talk freely, be heard without judgement, and find new ways to move toward meaningful connection and peace.

Many of my clients are adults who are neurodivergent or living with the impact of trauma. They might struggle with emotional dysregulation, cPTSD symptoms, anxiety, or low self-worth, often feeling misunderstood or overwhelmed by daily life. Some are managing ADHD or autism alongside a history of difficult experiences. What they want is to feel seen and accepted, to better understand themselves, and to develop strategies that bring stability, confidence, and self-kindness, while building healthier relationships and a stronger sense of identity..

You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Perhaps past experiences or relational wounds still affect your confidence, relationships, or sense of self. You want to understand why you react the way you do, feel more emotionally steady, and build healthier ways of coping. Above all, you want to feel safe, understood, and able to move forward with greater clarity and resilience.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
