I work with adults and young people from age 11, online and in person. When you feel stuck, overwhelmed, angry or hopeless, counselling offers a chance to slow down and focus on yourself. You might make connections between your past and present, reflect on your emotional responses, develop self-compassion and a deeper understanding of yourself, or simply talk things through. I also have a wealth of experience supporting teens with a range of concerns. Together, we have worked on developing coping strategies, building resilience, understanding anger, emotional regulation, and improving self-esteem, self-image and confidence.

I am working towards MBACP accreditation and BSc in Counselling, BPs Approved Certificate in Clinical Supervision, Trauma Informed Practice, Level 3 Manger, Appropriate Adult Training, HMP Bronzfield Non-operations staff/vetted, Cruse Bereavement Trained.
Many people know that they want to speak with a therapist, but are a afraid that their 'stuff' might shock or hurt them. PLEASE trust me - I do understand how awful life can be, how cruel some people can be, how we do things to survive that we wish we hadn't. Try me - you will find that I am not going to be shocked or hurt, and that I can listen with understanding, warmth and without judgment, for as long as it takes to put your demons to rest and move on with your life.

Hello and welcome. How can I help support you? It can be difficult to express our feelings or make sense of what is happening to us. Enabling ourselves to be truly heard is important so that we might explore our difficulties. You may feel that a change is needed. Perhaps you struggle with unhelpful patterns or have difficulty setting boundaries for yourself. Do you replay events, wishing that you had done things differently? Perhaps a past trauma is haunting you. Navigating our challenges can make us feel out of control, lost and frustrated. By working together we can heal, build strength and resilience and feel more fulfilled.

Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile. My name is Dawn, and I am Chapter You Counselling. I am an integrative therapist, providing counselling for children and young people both in-person and online. I also work with families offering Family Coaching utilising NVR strategies. Seeking counselling for your child/young person can feel like a big and sometimes overwhelming step. Seeking counselling may have come after a period of navigating challenges. It’s completely normal to feel unsure about where to start or what to expect from counselling.

Counselling can be helpful for a number of different life difficulties such as anxiety, depression and family and relationship issues.  Often in life we need to re-think or re-evaluate where we are going or who we are - you do not have to be in crisis for counselling to be of help to you. I aim to support you to be the best possible version of your self. I become a counsellor over 24 years ago and I have experienced many of the problems a full and busy life can give you. I wanted to support other people in making good life choices and to live happy and fulfilling lives free from difficulties that restrict them.

I will help you to understand your feelings, thoughts & what you are experiencing in a non-judgemental & confidential space. I will help you to identify certain behavioural patterns that have been useful in the past are no longer serving you. Through the re-examination of the roles you might be adopting in relation to yourself & others, your choices & beliefs, a new perspective & understanding into yourself & your difficulties can be reached. This new understanding will help new choices and possibilities to arise & a sense of clarity to emerge. I will provide a space in which you can truly be yourself, without fear of expectation.

Sometimes it’s hard to talk openly with friends or family, and you may feel trapped in your thoughts or emotions. I offer a safe, confidential space where we can explore what’s going on for you, help you make sense of your experience, and find new ways to understand and move forward. I’m an integrative therapist, drawing from both person-centred and psychodynamic approaches. This means we’ll work together at your pace, exploring your present challenges while also considering how past experiences may be influencing your current patterns.

You might be struggling with anxiety, overthinking, or feeling on edge. Maybe relationships feel draining, or being neurodivergent makes everyday life harder to manage. I offer counselling that helps you slow things down, understand your triggers, and build practical ways to cope. The aim is simple, less pressure, more clarity, and a steadier sense of self.

People come to me for counselling for all kinds of reasons, including; anxiety, depression, enhancing self esteem and confidence, relationship difficulties, bereavement, loss, management of anger, as well as issues such as learning how to heal from traumatic and early life experiences.
I believe that there is not a 'one size fits all' approach to counselling. Different individuals have different needs at different times, this 'unique-ness' means that I utilise a variety of different approaches. This tailored 'Integrative' approach draws on different schools of thought and ways of working to produce the most effective therapy for you.

I have experience in counselling adults, children and young people age 11+, dealing with: anger issues, anxiety, bereavement, coping with life changes, depression, disabilities, low self-esteem or low self-confidence, overcoming fears and phobias and relationship issues.
As a Gestalt therapist my aim is not to try and change you, but instead develop your self-awareness. Our sessions can be creative, if that suits you, where we can incorporate object work, role plays, sand-tray, metaphors and working with recurring dreams.

Previously I have volunteered with a grief charity as part of my journey to being the fully qualified counsellor I am now.
I also have some specialisms that I can offer to those that are seeking help with Anxiety & Depression, Bereavement and Dyslexia. We would use blended combinations of person centred, psychodynamic modalities and CBT to create some personalised coping plans to improve your life quality.

I am an experienced therapist with many years' experience working with clients who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, feeling sad, panic attacks, bereavement, trauma or just struggling with day-to-day life.
Do you find yourself saying ‘I’m fine’ when someone asks ‘How are you?’, but inside you are crumbling? Do you find yourself putting a mask on whenever you are around others in fear of them seeing what is really going on inside? Or do you find yourself ignoring your emotions and just pushing them away and not giving yourself the time to explore how you are really feeling? Life can be incredibly challenging at times and I understand how some life experiences can have a big impact on us and can leave us feeling overwhelmed and confused. Before you know it, you have lost direction and feel stuck and unable to find your way back.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
