ADHD Counselling in Didcot

I specialize in supporting neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with ADHD and Autism.
Hello, and a warm welcome to my profile. My name is Frankie, and I am a neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+ counsellor working in Oxfordshire.
There are many reasons why somebody may consider counselling – including (but certainly not limited to) a sense of general unease, burnout, anxiety, the stressors and pressures of modern society, life transitions, or navigating complex relationships.
My aim is to provide a kind, informed, genuine and trauma-informed space wherein you can explore, according to your choice, pace and comfort, some of what could be happening for you - past, present and future.

As a result I feel comfortable working with many issues including addiction, ASD, ADHD, trauma and personality disorders.
My training was transpersonal, which is the idea that the root of our suffering is in our core conditioning, and so therapy that focuses just on our thoughts and behaviours cannot provide us with all the answers we need. In this way I work to address the cause of anxiety and depression, leading to genuine, lasting change and a deeper sense of wellbeing.

I also offer assessment and diagnosis of ADHD.
As a Clinical Psychologist I have been trained in many different approaches (eg CBT, ACT, schema therapy etc). The approach I use with an individual client depends on their difficulties and preferences. Our first session would involve me asking lots of questions to understand you and your difficulties and what you would like to get out of sessions.

Hello and welcome. How can I help support you? It can be difficult to express our feelings or make sense of what is happening to us. Enabling ourselves to be truly heard is important so that we might explore our difficulties. You may feel that a change is needed. Perhaps you struggle with unhelpful patterns or have difficulty setting boundaries for yourself. Do you replay events, wishing that you had done things differently? Perhaps a past trauma is haunting you. Navigating our challenges can make us feel out of control, lost and frustrated. By working together we can heal, build strength and resilience and feel more fulfilled.

I work with adults and young people from age 11, online and in person.
When you feel stuck, overwhelmed, angry or hopeless, counselling offers a chance to slow down and focus on yourself. You might make connections between your past and present, reflect on your emotional responses, develop self-compassion and a deeper understanding of yourself, or simply talk things through.
I have a wealth of experience supporting teens with a range of concerns. Together, we have worked on developing coping strategies, building resilience, understanding anger, emotional regulation, and improving self-esteem, self-image and confidence.

Counselling can be helpful for a number of different life difficulties such as anxiety, depression and family and relationship issues. Often in life we need to re-think or re-evaluate where we are going or who we are - you do not have to be in crisis for counselling to be of help to you. I aim to support you to be the best possible version of your self. I become a counsellor over 24 years ago and I have experienced many of the problems a full and busy life can give you. I wanted to support other people in making good life choices and to live happy and fulfilling lives free from difficulties that restrict them.

With climate change, systemic social and financial inequality, polarised political debate, the cost-of-living crisis, and more going on around us, life in the 21st century can be complex and challenging. For those of us who are neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, disabled, racialised, or otherwise marginalized, things can be even tougher. Against this backdrop, prioritising your own well-being through counselling is a radical act which can help you develop self-compassion, address short- or long-term issues, and live authentically.

I've worked with individuals with ADHD, autism, and neurodiverse ways of being for 15 years.
I work with people who are trying to making sense of their place in the world, trying to answer questions of meaning, purpose and identity. If you're considering therapy, you may know what you want to work on, but feel stuck, frustrated, or in need of some support. You may know that something's not right but not know where to start. This may coincide with feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, or burn out. Psychotherapy is a space for you to discuss what's on your mind in a non-judgemental collaborative setting. This is a chance for you to tell your story, and make sense of what it means.

As an ex-lawyer I have personally experienced stress related burnout, work-place trauma, major depression, anxiety, grief, and adult diagnosis of ADD neurodiversity.
Are you stuck, finding life hard to manage or struggling with neurodiversity? Work with me to reconnect with your authentic self, the things that bring you joy and not get stuck on automatic pilot, playing parts that don't work any longer. You don't need to be unwell to benefit from psychosynthesis or mindfulness, although most people come to therapy when something gets stuck or unworkable in their lives. Whatever your reason to seek help, I believe in reconnecting you with what makes your heart sing.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
