I work with adults and young people with various presenting difficulties such as anxiety, OCD, phobias, stress, trauma, depression, anger, loss, low self esteem, self harm, relationship problems and abuse. Counselling is a process people seek when they want changes in their life. It can help us to understand and have better clarity of our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Let me ask you…Are you feeling stuck? Do you want to feel happier? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you feeling lost or hopeless? Are you battling with your inner critic? Do you want to heal from your past? If so let’s start your journey to discovering a new you.

Everybody who comes to counselling has different aims and outcomes that they want to achieve. Whatever your reasons for seeking counselling, I believe it can unlock thoughts and emotions and help you to process your experiences, exploring your current difficulties, alongside historic issues and relationships.

Making the first move to see a counsellor can feel like a big step, especially if this is the first time you've done it. Perhaps you feel like you’re worrying more than usual at the moment? Or maybe there is a specific issue on your mind that you can't seem to get past. Perhaps you've had enough of feeling anxious, or you're feeling low and 'stuck'. When we have the opportunity to share how we feel in a safe, confidential environment it can help us to develop a toolkit of coping strategies to deal with times when things get tough.

I’m here to start your healing journey with you. This is your safe space, where you can explore the pain and trauma that you’ve held with you for however long. I can imagine the thought of sharing this with somebody new is daunting and maybe even scary for some .. but that’s okay. Trust the process and allow yourself to be in this journey together. For my Muslim clients, I may combine elements of an Islamic model for therapy which solidifies the therapeutic relationship.

I support women who have been through challenging and abusive relationships. Many of them find difficult with establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries. My clients often confront anxiety and burnout, feeling overwhelmed and constantly on edge due to the weight of stress they carry. Among my clients, there are those who silently endure the weight of motherhood burnout. They want to rediscover their individual identities beyond the role of a caregiver.

Sometimes life can throw up unexpected challenges and we find that things that wouldn't normally bother us do. You may find yourself stuck, and unable to move forward; to make the change you so badly desire. It may be that you find yourself feeling anxious, depressed or stressed leaving you constantly worrying and struggling to sleep. Perhaps, you are having problems at work or in your relationships, or maybe you have suffered at the hands of others which impacts on your emotions and behaviours now. If any of this resonates with you, counselling can help develop the self-awareness you need and give you the tools to move you forward.

I provide CBT for common mental health problems such as depression, PTSD, OCD, social anxiety, generalised anxiety, panic and phobias.
Hello. I am a West Yorkshire based qualified BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT). CBT helps us understand the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and the ways this can become problematic despite our best efforts. CBT aims to work together on developing the skills and techniques needed to become your own therapist and overcome old patterns. To do this I use evidence-based techniques to help you work towards the goals that really matter to you.

I am an integrative counsellor; psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. My therapeutic practice is based largely on the relational approach, this means I place great emphasis on the relationship between you and I as it is our relationship which becomes the vehicle for your therapeutic journey. Each person is unique and I will draw on modalities that I feel will most suit you and the issues that you present to me. During our sessions I would like you to have as much autonomy as possible but I shall also give direction should you need it.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
