I am also a qualified Neuroscientist and Psychologist (GMBPsS). I’m here to start your healing journey with you. This is your safe space, where you can explore the pain and trauma that you’ve held with you for however long. For my Muslim clients, I may combine elements of an Islamic model for therapy which solidifies the therapeutic relationship.

With couples, the therapy is more directive and tailored to ensure both parties receive the support they feel they need within the sessions and outside of the sessions.
Life can sometimes feel unmanageable, we can feel low and isolated and unsure of who to turn to. When we feel stuck in certain situations and these begin impacting on our mood and our behaviour, we can often need the support of an outside source to help us look at our situation more clearly and to help us regain control. This is where an experienced counsellor can really help. "My therapist has been a great help, a good listener, and has given me an insight into who I really am....I'm sure I will be better for her sound counselling."

I am a Wellbeing Coach, so no matter what your circumstances, I will help you begin to cope better, start the process of building the life that you want and notice yourself making progress. I will provide a warm, accepting, relaxed environment, in which you will be given space to explore things for yourself, listened to and taken seriously, able to talk about what is important to you, and at the pace that is right for you. Most people I see feel better after one session, by session three, most have stabilised and are well on the way to a better life, by sessions 4 & 5, many are ready to end counselling and move on.

Hello, I’m Ben, a psychotherapist based in York, and I support people to resolve life and relationship difficulties. If you’ve ever felt trapped, possibly disliking who you have become and feeling others blaming you too; we can work together to make sense of how you came to be the person that you are today, and how to make positive changes in your life- to make you more you. Often we feel life’s pressures, or that there is some is just ‘wrong’ but we are unsure of what ‘it’ is, we can resolve the it - to make you more you. I support clients with childhood trauma, complex diagnosis, as well as seemly day to day issues.

I offer a warm, grounded, relational approach to individual and couples therapy, integrating psychodynamic work, attachment theory, and emotionally focused therapy.
Even when you’re thoughtful and self-aware, certain patterns can continue to shape your relationships in ways that don’t feel good. You may find yourself cycling through the same reactions, fears, or dynamics, leading to conflict, distance, or not feeling fully met. You might be carrying pain from childhood, navigating stress or anxiety, or facing challenges around intimacy or sexuality. You’re seeking more than insight—you want real change. Ultimately, you want relationships where you feel emotionally secure, connected, and confident.

Is life getting on top of you and you feel as though you can’t catch a break? Maybe your past is coming up for you in ways that affect you today and continue to make you feel stuck, despite overcoming challenges on the surface. Self limiting beliefs holding you back? Let’s talk- I’m here to help, I understand how difficult it can be to embark on a journey of self healing and discovery such as counselling- whether you are ready to pick up the phone right this second or you are just browsing for now, the fact that you have made it this far is a huge step. I believe that no two individuals are the same and my practice reflects this.

Asking for help can be difficult too. These are the times when a Professional can be your sounding board, with a compassionate, non-judgemental and safe attitude can offer you an opportunity to discover new perspectives, new possibilities. Stop suffering in silence... You have more power to change things than you think you have.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
