I see you, your story, your survival strategies, your values, and the meaning behind the way you have learned to protect yourself. Before I see your symptoms. Hello, I’m Chris Espinelli, a Qualified Integrative Counsellor, MBACP, and Level 5 CBT Therapist. I believe therapy begins with seeing the person before seeing the symptoms, the diagnosis, or the struggle. You are not simply “an anxious person”, “a people-pleaser”, “too sensitive”, “too emotional”, or “difficult”. Very often, the ways we think, feel, respond, protect ourselves, avoid conflict, overgiven, shut down or become overwhelmed.

I want to go on a journey with you and explore your story. Sometimes life is uncomfortable, and you have nowhere to turn. Things look fine from the outside — you appear to be functioning as normal — but inside, everything feels different and disconnected. Sometimes these changes happen so slowly they creep up on you, leaving you feeling incapable and scared that everything will unravel. Hello, I'm Amy. I'm a dedicated person-centred counsellor, and I bring both professional training and personal experience of bereavement to my work — I know what it is to sit inside that disconnection and not know how to put words to it.

Having personally experienced chronic illness and, more recently, cancer, I believe the end of treatment for any life-threatening or life-altering illness or event marks not a finish line, but the beginning of a long and often overlooked journey of recovery.
I focus on the power of strength-based psychology and narrative therapy - a collaborative, respectful approach that sees you as the expert in your own life and emphasises that you are not the problem. Together, we can also explore the mind-body connection, helping you reauthor stories of pain and powerlessness into ones of strength and hope.

Almost 4 years' experience of providing therapy to clients experiencing cancer.
Looking into therapy might be a new experience for you, but you’re looking into it for a reason; whether it’s work-related stress, relationship issues, feeling low or anxious, experiencing low self-esteem, or trying to process something that has had an impact on your wellbeing. I offer a safe space for you to talk, and say things that you may find difficult to say to anyone else, or even say out loud. You won’t be judged, you will be accepted, heard and valued. I’m very down to earth, open minded and do not shock easily. My aim is to help you feel at ease so that we can work together to improve your wellbeing.

” Many of my clients have struggled with the effects of cancer diagnosis, others grief or loss and some have become full time carers.
As someone who has experienced loss, I understand the impact of counselling to help you acknowledge and give space to those difficult thoughts and feelings that no one else understands. If you are struggling with loss through ill health, bereavement or disability (either as a carer or as a disabled person) then I can help you to find a way forward.

I work with individuals feeling unheard, adults who feel invisible, lonely, or misunderstood in their daily lives and personal relationships, people who feel deeply overwhelmed and individuals carrying the heavy weight of bereavement, a cancer diagnosis, family conflict, or intense work stress.
As a person-centred counsellor, I provide a safe, non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts. You control the session, looking inwards at a speed that feels right for you. I don't give advice or direct solutions. Instead, I help you find your own unique way of working things out.

Hi, I’m Anita, and I believe counselling can offer a calm, reflective space where you can begin to understand yourself more deeply and make sense of what you’re experiencing. People come to counselling for different reasons. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why things feel difficult. You might be facing a specific challenge, noticing old patterns repeating, or finding that past experiences are still shaping your present. Sometimes there’s a sense that something isn’t right, and you want space to explore it. You don’t need to arrive with the right words or know what you want to work on, we can begin wherever you are.

Counselling offers a space to talk about the issues in your life and there are many reasons for coming. Talking things through with a supportive and non-judgemental therapist can help you gain clarity and make sense out of where you currently find yourself. This in itself can provide some relief and open up the potential for positive change. Whether you are having difficulties at work, have anxiety or depression, have had a major life event/trauma, an addiction, experienced loss, or just need to make sense of your current situation I can offer you a warm, confidential and welcoming space where you feel safe, respected and supported.

Cancer Counsellors
How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counselling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
