Couples can experience relationship breakdown, trust or boundary issues, or simply feel that their relationship no longer feels quite right.
People seek counselling for a multitude of reasons... Maybe you are feeling anxious or depressed, you might be suffering a loss or illness, or simply feeling stuck. These experiences can leave you feeling isolated and helpless but this is where counselling can help. I am a warm, compassionate individual and my counselling style is both person-centred and trauma-informed. I also integrate a variety of other approaches, enabling me to be alongside you in a manner which allows you to feel fully heard and valued. I believe in, and respect, your inherent strength and resources even when these might feel impossible for you to access.

Nordlund and I am an integrative counsellor; working with individuals and couples
Some of you will approach counselling as a way of becoming unstuck from a continuous and repetitive loop that is detrimental for your wellbeing. Some may feel it is a last resort having reached a place of apathy towards life. Some again, will want to explore and understand themselves in context of who they are, why they think, feel and act in a certain way, and whom they wish to become. This will be a journey where you choose direction and speed.

I am best suited to those who want to understand themselves and those around them - or to understand what has happened to them. This inquiry is often prompted by some degree of difficulty; illness, loss, trauma, breakdown etc. but it can equally arise out of a pervading sense of depression, purposelessness or malaise about life. When one has some understanding of oneself and how a situation came about then life becomes much easier to navigate - an adventure even. Every situation, every person, every path, is unique and so every therapy is entirely individual.

My expertise lies in areas such as stress management, emotional regulation, personal development, and relationship dynamics.
We encounter various kinds of difficulties and challenges every day. At times, it can be challenging to open up to others, therefore leading to feelings of confusion and a sense of powerlessness. Recently, many individuals from Hong Kong who have relocated to the UK have faced setbacks in their social, professional, or academic pursuits. Such challenges often stem from uncertainties surrounding self-image and self-worth while adapting to a new environment. If you find yourself in a similar situation, exploring yourself through psychological counseling can provide you with more effective means to understand and address these emotions

I specialise in the following subjects: Anxiety, worry, overwhelm Depression, self-critical mind, loneliness Relationship problems Childhood negative experiences Workplace stress Trauma processing, CPTSD Concentration problems Anger management Loss and bereavement Dating Moving from reactivity to reflectiveness My life and work have taught me that people heal by moving from a reactive state to a reflective state.
I relate to you with respect, and attempt to work with you on a human-to-human level, rather than from the condescending perspective of an ‘expert’. Instead of viewing you as someone who needs to fundamentally change, I am interested in uncovering the wisdom, sanity and authentic being that you already possess.

It may be a deep-rooted issue that goes back to childhood, a past relationship or a trauma.
Having a place where we can allow ourselves time and a calm space to think, talk and work things out can be absolutely priceless. We might find ourselves able to unpick past experiences or to bring up something we have never before shared with anyone else despite its effect on us. These and many other issues can be addressed in the therapy room.

I am a specialist relationship and couples therapist having trained at Tavistock Relationships, the leading centre of excellence for couple psychotherapy.
I use a psychodynamic and ISTDP approach where our thoughts and feelings in the present are explored in the context of looking at family relationships and early experiences. Making links with our past and present can bring a greater understanding of where our patterns of behaviour and beliefs come from, and how you relate to others and to yourself.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
