I work with all sorts of different issues and problems - treating each person as a unique individual, whilst also trying to tap in to theory and learning from my work with each person I’m privileged to work with. I really aim to offer non-judgmental, listening & understanding as well as new perspectives and tools to take away. I challenge my clients unhealthy, unkind views of themselves or behaviours, but trust their own innate self-knowledge too. The process is often difficult, but I'll be beside you. With time and patience, real understanding of self and others can happen, and help you lead a happier, healthier life.

I am a BABCP accredited CBT therapist, and an EMDR therapist. If you're struggling with difficulties related to previous traumas, painful memories or losses from the past, then I can help you to make sense of these, understand why you're feeling so overwhelmed, and then process the painful memories and emotions in order to help you to feel calmer and more content. I also specialise in helping people with anxiety disorders (like OCD, social anxiety, and health anxiety). I will help you to understand what is keeping you trapped, and to build the confidence and skills to challenge yourself, and face the things that scare you.

Are you looking to better understand and reduce the impact of your anxiety? Or maybe you want to explore your past and make sense of difficult relationships and events? Perhaps you're trying to manage changes in life and need to work through where you're at and where you'd like to get to? As you know, people come to therapy for many different reasons. Some people need to get things off their chest in a safe space, others want to actively work on managing difficult emotions or relationships, or work through change. It's also ok if it's hard to articulate why exactly you'd like therapy, we can figure that out together.

It can feel daunting to seek therapy, but it helps to have someone alongside you while you are struggling. I will provide a compassionate space, and we can work together to look for the roots of your current difficulties. Therapy can be difficult, but all of your feelings and moods will be met with empathy and curiosity, as meaningful clues to help me understand your experience of living. We will take things at your pace. As we explore your emotions and experiences, and make connections, you will understand more about yourself. Unconscious patterns will emerge, and new choices can start to be made.

At times life can become too much, you may be struggling and feeling stuck, not knowing which way to turn. You may chose to explore relationships, patterns of behaviour and influences from the past or present. Choices made due to abuse, trauma or any other issues may be holding you back from your true potential. Either way, we can work towards seeking greater understanding of your unique problems in a non-judgemental curious way.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
