We all know the routine: "How are you?" "I'm fine, thanks" – the standard response, hiding a deeper truth. Beneath the brave face, you might be feeling less connected to loved ones, friends, or even yourself. Sometimes anxious, as though in a crowded room, yet completely alone. Perhaps the energy needed to connect has disappeared, leaving you feeling less able to engage? Or, maybe you feel a sensation of emptiness or loss? Talking openly and honestly about your true feelings is always a daunting first step, but it's also the most important one towards feeling better.

You've tried everything to "fix" your OCD. You've read self-help books, googled all sorts, promised to try harder tomorrow. But here's what you've discovered: the more you fight it, the worse it gets. The checking spirals. The avoidance spreads. The intrusive thoughts get louder and louder. You're exhausted from battling your own mind, and you're wondering if maybe you're just broken. Here's the truth: you're not broken. Your brain is doing exactly what brains do, it's trying to keep you safe, just in a not so useful way. The pathways back to the life you want are still there; you just need someone who can help you see them again.

Some people arrive with a clear understanding of what they’re struggling with, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right. You may be feeling emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, stuck in repeating patterns, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together. Others come with bigger questions around identity, meaning, relationships, or how to exist more comfortably in the world. Sometimes these experiences show up not only emotionally, but physically too- through anxiety, tension, numbness, overwhelm, shutdown, or a sense of feeling disconnected from your body.

If you feel like you’ve lost your footing in your relationships or your own skin, you don’t have to steady yourself alone. I offer a calm, down-to-earth space to untangle complex patterns and find your way back to yourself. I have a particular interest in how early family roles, especially those shaped by sibling relationships, continue to influence the adults we become. Whether you were the “responsible” eldest, the peacemaker, or the one who felt overlooked, these patterns often echo in our relationships today.

I am able to use different methods in my therapy practice, whether it is art, play, metaphors in storytelling or symbols in the sand and clay to help children make sense of their overwhelming feelings or difficult experiences.
Growing up is hard, and today’s world brings extra pressures for children and teens. Emotional struggles can show up as difficult behavior, anxiety, or unhealthy ways of coping, and it’s often hard for children to express what’s inside. I support families at every stage: from infancy (0–2), through parent-infant psychotherapy to help babies and parents build secure, nurturing connections, to older children and teens, providing tailored support to process emotions, develop coping skills, strengthen relationships, and feel understood in a safe and creative space.

I specialise in trauma and bring a strong sensorimotor aspect to my work using clay, art, and much more!
My name is Amy! I am often introduced to children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable and experiencing difficulties in their everyday life including school, friendships and homelife. This can be deeply distressing for the whole family. However, it is never too late to begin the healing process together and start repair work in therapy. Most families choose to use the Aylsham studio for their sessions but sometimes I can work in schools or residential homes where appropriate.

Are you looking for help with anxiety or depression? Is it hard to make sense out of your life and your identity as a male or female?...whether its work, family, or relationship related?...are you willing to work honestly and to be challenged?...you will be hoping for an empathic and non judgemental approach...and will be prepared to focus on how you and I can work together to bring about the changes that you need in your life. Are you open to new ways of working on old problems, even if the journey feels rather scary? You won't be alone in this process. Couples therapy is a specialism and I am also a "male friendly" therapist.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
