I offer online sessions or can see you in person in Dartington
I am an MNCPS accredited counsellor working from the Dartington Estate in South Devon. I am also a member of the BACP, hold an enhanced DBS & Level 3 certificate in Safeguarding Children.  I offer a free half an hour initial session which gives us the chance to meet and to find out if we are the right fit for each other, with My training was integrative, although I primarily use a person centred approach, especially when we start our sessions together. As our work evolves, we can bring in CBT techniques or Gestalt therapy which focuses on the here and now, bringing new awareness to whatever current issues you are facing.

I see therapy as a close and creative collaboration, where together we can be with what concerns you and find out how are you relating with it. I can support you to understand how you respond to life and how you hold off from it. Let’s find out what happens in you, that limits the possibilities. We do this together, by listening closely, whilst I support you to pay attention to your present experience, because this gets us closer to understanding and is empowering. I trust this is more fruitful than working hard to try to figure things out. It gets below the rounds of thinking you have probably got caught in if you're struggling.

What do you need to get your life on track, to feel fulfilled, relevant, in control and in the drivers seat? Sometimes we just need a bit of support to get there, an outside eye, a gentle challenge. We always need, and deserve to be treated with sensitivity, respect and dignity. Life is full of challenges, but you don't need to face them alone. Letting someone in can be scary, but you really do deserve to be supported, and you have every right to live a fulfilling, rich and creative life.

Hi, my name is Mark Shanagher and I practice Core Process Psychotherapy at Dartington Hall, Totnes.
My approach is collaborative and relational. I am interested in working with you to explore how it is that you ‘do’ you, in what your experience is and in how you might begin to express and experience yourself differently. I have seen how transformation can take place in a setting of compassion, acceptance and non-judgemental listening, and value these qualities in our working relationship.

I offer face to face and online sessions, creating a safe space where you can explore and make sense of what is going on for you, at your own pace.
Are you struggling with a sense of meaninglessness, isolation and hopelessness, leading to feelings of fear and anxiety? Often we seek therapy when we start to become aware of being stuck in the same old patterns but have no idea of why or how to change things. Perhaps you are facing significicant challenges in your life - major life changes like divorce, redundancy, bereavement, illness or loss and you're stuggling to navigate your way through it? Or perhaps you are trying to cope with the effects of past trauma. Life has become unbearable and you're struggling to find a way forward. You want and need something to change?
