I am here to support clients who are experiencing challenging emotions and situations, such as anxiety disorders, depression, bereavement, or feeling trapped in repetitive relationship patterns. Our attachment styles are formed from a young age, and as we grow older, we may find ourselves stuck in these same patterns. I have helped clients confront their attachment fears that affect their personal relationships. Additionally, I have worked with individuals who struggle with self-harm and suicidal thoughts, supporting them as they navigate their feelings of emptiness.

I offer a no-obligation assessment initially, which is opportunity for us to discuss your situation and determine better if therapy with me could meet your needs; only if you are happy to do we then proceed to an ongoing therapy, be it on a short or long term basis. I incorporate psychodynamic, existential, cognitive behavioural and person centred approaches to offer a therapy suited to your unique needs. Whilst we all know something of suffering anxiety, depression, bereavement, or other issues, your particular experience is entirely your own. I believe in a therapy that accommodates your individuality.

No two people experience life in the same way. Your experiences, feelings and circumstances are uniquely yours, and counselling should reflect that.
Life can be hard, and sometimes you just need to talk about it. You may know exactly what you’d like support with, or simply feel that something doesn’t feel quite right. Perhaps you’re feeling low or anxious, navigating grief or loss, struggling after a difficult life event, or feeling stuck and unsure where to begin. Counselling offers space to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing and make space for all of you.

Hello my name is Stuart.
I became a counsellor because I have always been interested in people and their stories. I am curious about why we react and respond in different ways to life, to the good parts, the painful parts, the constant changes, and the moments that leave us questioning ourselves. I have often wondered why some people appear to thrive while others feel they are only just getting through, and why everyone’s approach to life can look so different.

As a Transactional Analysis counsellor, I view our work together through a collaborative, empowering lens. TA is based on the idea that we all carry different parts of ourselves—our inner Child, our Internal Parent, and our rational Adult ego states. Often, old survival strategies or past "life scripts" run the show without our permission. In a warm, judgment-free space we will look at how these patterns were formed, figure out what is no longer serving you, and strengthen your Adult ego state so you can make fresh, authentic choices in the here-and-now.

I work with adults who want a supportive space to explore what’s going on for them. You may be concerned about addiction, feeling anxious, low, burnt out or carrying more than you let on. My approach is pluralistic, which means I don’t fit you into a model — we find what works for you. Clients often tell me they value my warmth, steadiness and the sense of being met as a whole person.

My own experience of therapy inspired me to become a psychotherapist. Through therapy, I gained a deeper understanding of how early experiences can shape our relationships, emotions and sense of self. This journey helped me move beyond patterns that had left me feeling stuck and develop a more fulfilling way of living. As a therapist, I offer a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore your difficulties, gain insight and work towards meaningful and lasting change. If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck or struggling to move forward, I invite you to get in touch.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
