You are not alone. There are many reasons why people seek counselling such as anxiety, bereavement or relationships and it can be a combination of things that makes someone feel overwhelmed. I work with all age groups, genders and cultures; with individuals, couples and families. Talking can be difficult for anyone so I also offer creative and animal assisted therapies to enable clients to express their feelings and experiences in a less challenging way. I am experienced in different life issues: If you are Deaf I can sign BSL or you might be on the Autistic Spectrum. If appropriate I can also work with clients in a home setting.

I support adults navigating grief, loss, relationship struggles, carrying a lot emotionally, or facing moments when life feels too much.
Hi, I’m Lynda, a counsellor based in Rochester. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or carrying a grief that’s hard to explain. Maybe something has changed in your life, or perhaps it’s been building for a while. I offer a calm, steady space where you don’t have to hold it all alone. We’ll take things at your pace. Sometimes we may sit with what’s heavy; other times, we might begin to gently untangle it. Together, we’ll explore ways to cope and feel more grounded in who you are.

My background in working for organisations across London & Kent gave me a particular understanding of the emotional challenges that many of us face including, depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship & family issues. I believe that evidence based psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) along with an integrative counselling approach allows flexibility in dealing with each individual’s needs. This, combined with a safe & non-judgemental therapeutic relationship is key for the process of change & recovery.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, particularly during periods of stress, burnout, or transition. You might be navigating challenges around confidence, identity, or relationships, or noticing patterns you’d like to better understand. Therapy can offer a supportive space to explore these experiences and develop greater clarity, self-understanding, and emotional balance.

We all have aims and ambitions for ourselves but life events can often leave us barely able to cope, facing anxious or depressive thoughts daily. Are you living with certain traits of ADHD and you could use some useful steps to help you manage better? Have you wondered how you may have learned to cope through your childhood and how adverse events in your life shaped your view of who you are? Are you struggling with issues making it hard to feel like you’re prospering and enjoying life fully? Do you feel fulfilled in your work and your personal life? Counselling and therapy help us gain understanding and acceptance of ourselves.

I have experience in working with adults of all ages in a charitable organisation and am active in teaching an Introduction to Counselling Skills Programme
I am a BACP registered counsellor and work for a private counselling charity. I have a wealth of experience working for the NHS and understand the pressures and complexities of working in the healthcare environment. I have a special interest in supporting those who have experienced domestic abuse. Many people who have experienced an abusive relationship are left feeling confused, scared and anxious. Some are left questioning their reality and wondering if it is all their fault. I am able to offer a safe and confidential space where we can untangle these difficult thoughts and feelings together and bring some peace back to your life

In my mind therapy is not about fixing ourselves for we are not broken. I believe that in order to survive certain situations we may have adapted in ways that now leave us disconnected from ourselves and others. The process of therapy is not always easy and it takes courage to look inwards, it can feel counterintuitive to reveal our vulnerabilities in the presence of another, but I wonder if we are ever truly free if we choose not to.

Do you feel as though you missed the handbook given out about understanding social interactions? An alien observing a different culture. Could being neurodivergent be the missing piece of the puzzle? I understand what it is to feel like a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Depression and anxiety can build to intolerable depths. But it doesn't have to stay that way. I am experienced in helping people evaluate, accept and thrive in their new reality.

I work with adults, and young people, to overcome conditions like panic attacks, anxiety, depression and phobias.
In my experience every client comes to therapy with a unique set of life circumstances. Sometimes these contribute to personal and emotional problems which can feel overwhelming or even insurmountable. Often, it is at this point that a person reaches out for professional help. They may identify that low mood, negative thinking, stress or relationship problems are impediments to living a good life and they will want help to restore healthy self-esteem, confidence, balance and self-worth. Often clients are looking for a supportive, non-judgmental, compassionate and caring professional to guide them on their journey to wellbeing.

FAQ - About Adult Counselling
Why should adults see a therapist?
Adults may benefit from therapy for a wide range of reasons—whether it’s managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition like anxiety or depression, navigating life transitions, coping with grief or trauma, or simply seeking support during a challenging life period. Many adults find that therapy helps them build healthier coping skills and better process their emotions, which may lead to better relationships and reduced stress. It’s important to note that, unlike psychiatrists or primary care physicians, therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medication. However, they will often work alongside prescribing clinicians to ensure coordinated care and can provide behavioural therapy as an important addition to psychiatric medication. Mental health concerns can look different in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence, so finding a therapist with expertise working with adult clients is important. Conditions like major depressive disorder (MDD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for instance, may present or resurface differently in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence. Adult-specific stressors, such as job strain, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, financial stress, or identity transitions, can also influence the onset and type of symptoms an individual experiences. Adult-focused therapists, therefore, are trained to understand these complexities and tailor care accordingly.

How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
When seeking care, it’s important to understand a therapist’s treatment specialties and their overall approach to treatment . Some therapists focus on common adult conditions like anxiety or depression, while others specialize in areas such as trauma, substance use disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s also important to consider a therapist’s training when seeking care. Therapists in the UK hold various credentials depending on their training and regional requirements. Counsellors and Psychotherapists registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) receive the designation MBACP and their qualifications and practice are overseen by BACP. Many Psychologists registered with the British Psychological Society receive the title of Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), signifying that they have completed postgraduate training and supervised practice. All of these professionals can provide talk therapy but do not prescribe medication. When searching for a therapist, consider their credentials and training background to ensure a good fit.

How do I find a therapist who sees adults?
Psychology Today’s online directory allows you to search specifically for therapists who work with adults. Each provider profile includes key information such as clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, licensure, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken, and session fees. Reviewing these details can help you determine whether a particular provider aligns with your needs and can indicate whether they are a good match for adult clients.
