Creative Therapy Counselling in Croydon
There are times when what once made sense no longer does — when loss, change, or exhaustion leave you holding more than you can carry. You might be grieving someone, something, or even the version of yourself who kept going. You may be realising how much you’ve adapted to fit in, or how tired you are of coping alone. Therapy can be a space to exhale — where nothing has to be held together and you can begin to feel met, not managed.

Using toys, games, sensory resources, and art materials, I facilitate children in exploring and communicating thoughts and feelings that can sometimes be difficult to put into words.
For children, play is often a natural way of communicating and making sense of their experiences. I provide a safe, caring, and non-judgemental space where children can feel heard, understood, and supported as they build confidence, emotional understanding and healthier ways of coping.

If you're dealing with trauma, anxiety, grief, or the effects of narcissistic abuse, you're not alone. Sarah (name changed for confidentiality) came to me feeling overwhelmed by past pain and confusion. Together, we uncovered the layers of her trauma, helping her understand her emotions and break free from the grip of the past. Today, Sarah is on a path of rebuilding her life—she's regained clarity and found the peace she thought was out of reach. Like Sarah, you too can break free from past pain, rebuild your life, and find a clearer, more balanced state of mind.

I work with adults (18+) who look like they are coping on the outside, but inside feel overwhelmed, stuck or unsure of themselves. Many are holding everything together while dealing with anxiety around work, low mood, difficult relationships, family issues or the impact of past experiences.
I help clients understand what is happening beneath these patterns, rather than judging themselves for having them. Together, we explore how past experiences, attachment wounds and relationship dynamics may be shaping the present, so they can build more self-awareness, stronger boundaries and a clearer sense of who they are.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
