I have extensive experience of working with a range of difficulties including anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, insomnia, binge eating disorders and obesity.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, I have found clients to really appreciate the flexibility that meeting online has brought them and many have commented that they have found it just as effective (if not better) than meeting face to face.

Success is often depicted as a series of milestones achieved through talent, hard work, and perseverance. Yet, there’s a hidden dimension to success that goes beyond external accomplishments. The "secret language of success" includes understanding and overcoming personal emotional challenges that can impede our progress. Every successful individual has faced various personal challenges. Typically, the impact of such challenges goes unnoticed for quite some time. Anxiety can make it hard for us to focus and perform. Depression can cast a shadow over our aspirations. Low self-esteem and self-doubt can inhibit our confidence.

Many of the people I work with describe feeling stuck in patterns that leave them drained, saying yes when they want to say no, overthinking every little thing or feeling like their mind never switches off. Sometimes it's the opposite, feeling paralysed by indecision, stuck in procrastination and avoidance. Often there can be a background noise of persistent self-doubt or maybe guilt. Therapy might offer an opportunity to understand what’s really going on, not just the symptoms, but the patterns, pressures and histories driving them. Sometimes this can be about making changes in our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.

I tailor treatment by drawing on various psychological models & love working with OCD, relationships, women's issues, perfectionism and high pressure environments.
I understand difficulties swiftly by truly listening to what you say (and what you don't), the language you use and the context you're in.

Alongside my Master's in the Psychodynamic model, I also hold additional qualifications in CBT, REBT, OCD Awareness (Diploma), Complex Trauma Training, and Level 3 Play Therapy.
Hi, I’m Jodi. I’m a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist blending CBT, REBT, Art Therapy, neuroscience, and trauma-informed practice. I focus on why therapy can sometimes feel frustrating, pointless, or even absurd—like being asked “How does that make you feel?” for the hundredth time, being told to focus on your breathing when all you want to do is facepalm, or hearing “Name five things you can see” and wondering if screaming at your therapist is actually an acceptable response. The truth is, until you understand what’s really happening in your brain and body—and why certain strategies could help—most techniques just don’t stick.

While I enjoy working with clients facing a wide range of difficulties, I have a particular interest in anxiety, OCD and trauma
My interest in psychotherapy, spirituality and meditation began after the end of my marriage several years ago, which like many other types of losses, triggered a lot of suffering. Life transition, family and friends losses, the breakup of long-term relationships, stress, anxiety and depression are all part of human suffering. However, we have an innate capability, which we can strengthen, that allows us to navigate and, more importantly, learn from our most difficult life experiences.

I also have a lot of experience in working with the distressing symptoms of OCD ( Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
As well as academic training in CBT, I have specialist training in a flexible framework developed by Dr David Burns, a key early developer of CBT, called TEAM-CBT. I have also trained in specialist strategies for OCD. These include Inference-Based CBT and Rumination-Focused ERP which can often greatly enhance more common OCD strategies.

Anxiety is a natural part of life, but when it becomes overwhelming, it can stop you from doing what matters most—perhaps spending time with loved ones, trying new experiences, or simply feeling at ease. In an effort to cope, it's easy to fall into patterns that make anxiety worse, leaving you feeling stuck or isolated. You might build walls to protect yourself from disappointing others or feeling embarrassed, but those same walls can push people away, leaving you more disconnected. My approach is centered on creating a compassionate, safe space where we can explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are holding you back.

I work with adults and teenagers with OCD (diagnosed or suspected).
There are a few different ways we can work together, from understanding your OCD and anxiety experience, right through to treatment with ERP. Come and find a safe place with me to talk about your experience, and find more peace and calm. Let's have that first conversation - feel the fear and do it anyway!

I work using a combination of Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) approaches. I believe that this offers you the best of both worlds. You may feel your life has lost meaning and this can lead to depression, stress or anxiety. This can sometimes be due to unhelpful or negative thinking (cognitive) patterns and together we can work on these. Talking to a professional counsellor can help you process those feelings and move towards a more contented life. I will not judge you and I will always work at your pace. I offer a careful balance of support and gentle challenge.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
