My niche has developed overtime resulting in specialisit areas of working with young adults 11-25,, clients with chromic or long term illness such as Fibromyalgia and Cancer and finally infant and child death.
By combining my therapeutic models, I am able to provide a unique approach for each client which will help you to gain insight into your issue, enabling you to bring about change. The therapy lies in the realationship between the client and counsellor, where trust and respect is developed and at the centre of each session, and is integral in the way I work. I have experience working with adults and young people, helping with a wide range of issues. Therapy offered can be either short or long term at flexible times during the day and evening depending on the needs/requirements for each client.

I support Children and Young People with counselling through face to face conversations, therapeutic exploration and / or play. This enables a child or young person to express, explore and make sense of events and experiences that are hard to verbalise or articulate. It is a non-directive and client-centred approach to therapy that allows the client the opportunity to play out, talk about and work through feelings and emotions within a safe and therapeutic environment.

Level 5 Humanistic based therapist who is training towards becoming a psychotherapist. I'm also studying young person Counselling. As a therapist I look to put the 'human' back into the therapeutic relationship. I aim to work with my clients in a collaborative, co-created way that looks to facilitate sustainable change outside the therapeutic alliance. My main aim of working with clients is to raise their awareness around issues with a psycho-educational style. I am guiding them to move through issues to lead fulfilling lives where they embrace understanding themselves, which creates empowerment in consciousness.

My focus is on creating a warm and accepting environment where each person is accepted unconditionally. There is no personal, relationship or family issue that will either surprise or deter me from working with you and the members of your family to hopefully find solutions and resolve past or current conflicts. Each person has their own perception of the story to tell and you are given time and space to explore and express these thoughts and feelings without blame or recrimination from others. I offer you a safe space in the presence of your loved ones in order for you to claim your identity and step into your true potential.

Most of us will experience emotional and relational difficulties at some point in our lives. Sometimes we are able to move through these difficult periods but other times, we may need help to understand the reasons we have become stuck in unhelpful patterns. It is important that during these times, we are able to ask for help and create some space to understand the difficulties we are experiencing and develop new ways of relating to our emotions, thoughts, experiences and relationships. It is also essential to reconnect with your strengths and resiliences in therapy to help you move forwards.

Hi my name is Amy, I understand that seeking help can be scary, especially if you have felt let down in the past or you haven't ever opened up to anyone before. Healing takes time and I will be alongside you for as long as it takes to feel safe and secure in expressing difficult and painful life experiences and feelings. I won't ever try to force you to open up, sometimes I might suggest using creative tools to express how you feel if you are finding it hard to put things into words. My approach is tailored to you and what you are comfortable doing.

My Clients over the last 18 years have ranged from having simple symptoms ( i.e. sleep disturbances, anxiety about interviews or social anxiety ) to severe symptoms (i.e. severe depression, insomnia, PTSD, OCD, Borderline Personality or sexual abuse). My clients are looking for tools that will help them reduce or eliminate those symptoms but they are also wanting to develop long term functional habits that will help them lead a healthier life. Some of my clients are highly functional but they are struggling with emotional issues in their relationships with childhood abuse, addictions, fears, self-esteem and others.

Life can throw so many different situations at each and every one of us. Sometimes those situations are too difficult to deal with and can be overwhelming. In those times, it can seem difficult to know who to talk to without feeling some sense of failure and possible shame, that you have not been able to do what others seem to be able to do so easily. Embarrassment may stop you from wanting to talk to family or friends or you may feel that you are not understood by those around you. This can increase a sense of isolation or loneliness creating more anxiety and possible depression.

Child Counsellors

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
