Hello, I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, CAT Therapist and Coach. I am passionate about working with people in the way that they find most helpful. We can all find ourselves at a point in our lives when things are not how we’d like them to be. We can be caught up in negative patterns, experience difficult symptoms (such as struggling with sleep or anxiety, feeling low or stressed) and have difficulties with our relationships, work or our health. We may have experienced something traumatic or stressful that we struggle to cope with or find ourselves caught up in a negative situation that we don’t seem to be able to escape.

The idea of an ‘ideal client’ doesn’t exist to me as every person deserves the chance to receive therapy. I offer a warm and safe environment whilst gently challenging and encouraging clients to visit the deepest parts of their lives. My clients are given the chance to meet with a therapist who not only cares for their wellbeing but also cares for the person they once were and the person that they are going to be.

I help strong, capable, and dependable individuals - the ones everyone relies on - who carry their own needs and everyone else’s on their shoulders. From the outside they appear resilient and in control, but inside they are often exhausted. I offer a space where they no longer have to “handle it” alone.

Loss changes us. It can turn our world upside down, whether it comes through the death of a loved one, the loss of a cherished pet, the end of a relationship, loss of identity, or a major life change. Each of these losses carries its own weight, and no two experiences are ever the same. These experiences often bring a range of valid emotions such as anxiety, sadness, anger, exhaustion, overwhelm, feeling lost, or a sense of being disconnected from oneself. I specialise in supporting clients navigating this difficult times, and I draw from my extensive training, working at Macmillan Cancer Support, and my own personal experience.

Like me, my client base has been gloriously eclectic. I have extensive experience of working with many types of loss. Grief is painful no matter whether it's as a result of a relationship breakup, loosing touch with parts of yourself. Slowly painfully loosing a loved one to Alzheimers/Dementia, being a carer for a child with an eating disorder. I regularly work with clients who have been in some way affected by a Brain Tumour. Interestingly Anger and Rage is something i have worked with regularly in the last 4 years. If you or your partner are neurodivergent I can help you find collaborative ways of communicating together.

You’re outwardly functioning, maybe even thriving — but inside, something doesn’t feel quite right. You might find yourself overthinking after interactions, second-guessing decisions, or carrying a quiet sense that you’re not fully yourself. Many of the people I work with are very good at adapting — but privately feel like they’re performing rather than really living. I work with people who’ve spent years saying “I’m fine” while feeling disconnected from themselves, from others, or from the life they want to live. Therapy can be a space to understand those patterns and explore who you are, what you value, and how you want to live.

As a humanistic-integrative counsellor and supervisor+, I take the view that there is no single approach that can treat every client, in all situations. I therefore offer an approach to counselling that combines different elements of several specific therapies so as to enable me to provide the appropriate interventions for each individual. I believe each person is an 'unique whole' and counselling techniques are best tailored to fit the unique individuals needs and personal circumstances. It is of primary importance to me that I offer you highly confidential service based on you as an individual in your distinctive circumstances.

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.
What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.
When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.
How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
