Anxiety Counselling in Crawley
I provide online therapy sessions working with adults over the age of 16 who might be struggling with a range of mental health difficulties including anxiety and low mood.
The key idea behind CBT is that we can get 'stuck' in negative thought processes and patterns of unhelpful behaviour which have a detrimental impact on how we feel. In therapy, we will gently explore how this is impacting your life and consider what the alternatives might be - offering you a way to break the cycle and ultimately live a more meaningful life.

Yet internally, you may be struggling with anxiety, overthinking, emotional exhaustion, or the feeling that despite understanding yourself well, you remain stuck in the same patterns.
Before training in psychology, I had a long career in business and technology. I understand from the inside the pressures of responsibility, performance, and constant mental activity. This background gives me a practical understanding of the pressures that often accompany responsibility, leadership, and high performance.

As a humanistic counsellor you are at the centre of my practice. Working with children and adults I provide a safe and accepting space to explore and empower your decisions. I understand that life can feel confusing, isolating and some events can bring up emotions you had boxed away, leaving you feeling overwhelmed. You might feel that you have lost sight of who you are or that people just do not hear you. Big life changes especially in childhood have such an impact on us, and it is about seeing these patterns and deciding if you want to change them.

Dealing with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, and stress is very isolating
Counselling can help. Taking the first step in asking for help is one of the hardest things a person must do. Having been a client myself I understand how difficult it is to explain what you are feeling inside your own head without feeling like you are being judged. Having to say these feelings out loud is even harder. I am here to support you.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
