Are you looking for a neurodivergent therapist? I have a special interest in working with late diagnosed neurodivergent adults (autism/ADHD/AuDHD) or if you are questioning your neurodivergent identity. From my own lived experience, I strongly relate to people who have felt misunderstood and experienced difficulties with fitting in with others. You may be hiding your struggles behind a mask which can be exhausting to maintain in the long term. Now might be the time to slow down and reconnect with your authentic self.

Are you tired of putting on a brave face when inside you wish the world would just swallow you up at times?
Perhaps you struggle to feel good about yourself, your body or your life and carry the burden of shame, regret or frustration about this. Maybe you dwell on the past, worry about the future or over-analyse everything you do harshly and critically. Do things all seem a bit grey sometimes? You might be in your head a lot & perhaps you've learnt ways to protect yourself or cope (that may be having unintended consequences). You may understandably long for life to feel pleasurable, hopeful and meaningful again.

Hiya, I'm Paul, a Gestalt Psychotherapist. You are doubtless here because you need affirming support. Gestalt is wonderful as it respects a person's symptoms as creative adjustments rather than illnesses. Your life is always in process and living it is all that's needed to maintain its flow; one way you may not be doing this is by telling yourself, or having been told by others how you should do this. This won't help your sense of self but lose sight of how and what you are. I will work with you to make you feel safe, understood and validated so that through the simple experience of being you do not seek to be what you are not.

Have you noticed that certain patterns seem to repeat in your life? Perhaps in how you feel internally across different situations, or in your interactions with others, or perhaps you feel stuck and don’t quite know what’s going on, or how you might move forward? You may have thought to yourself “try harder”, or “others can do it, why can’t I?”, or even believe something is “wrong” with you that’s keeping you from the life you wish to live. Whilst these thoughts are shared by many, they aren’t entirely accurate, and therapy with me might help make sense of things, talk through your struggles, and find different ways to move forward.

I work with children and young people, specialising in anxiety and OCD. I help them learn new skills and attitudes to improve their ability to handle difficult thoughts and feelings and do more of what matters to them and make more room for connection. Mental health challenges encroach on their lives, make them avoid and make their world smaller. They disconnect from themselves, the things they care about and the people that matter to them. They underestimate their strengths and resources, overestimate life’s challenges and get stuck.
I regularly run group coaching programmes for parents, please enquire for details.

Life, as they say is a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs with wild twists and turns when we least expect them. Loss, bereavement, loneliness, trauma from past and present, anxiety, and many other issues affect us all in our daily lives.
How we deal with these matters varies, self harm physically and mentally through addictions, poor relationship choices, physically harming the body, self deprication, gambling, amongst many other harmful behaviours are often presenting behaviours.
They are all distractions from our true selves, when what we need most is to be heard and listened to, to grow and become the person we want to be.

I work with people who are facing difficult life issues, some feel depressed and/or anxious, and unsure how to get out of the life position they find themselves in. Others experience problems managing difficult emotions caused by grief or trauma and find themselves in a maze of emotions that feel impossible to navigate. Some experience relational problems; families, partners, work colleagues and other relationships can sometimes be at the centre of hard to mange emotions. I tailor therapy to your needs, we can set goals, explore how we and others function in relationships, or use techniques; I leave these choices to you.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
