The people I work with are seeking clarity, healing, and a deeper connection with themselves. They may struggle with trauma, self-doubt, or perfectionism, feeling torn between wanting change and fearing it. Tired of repeating the same emotional patterns, they want to understand themselves, heal past wounds, and move forward with confidence. More than just symptom relief, they seek growth, self-trust, and emotional freedom, with the goal of living a life of purpose, balance, and fulfillment.

I understand that sometimes life feels too difficult . You might be having some trouble in a relationship, feel unhappy or stressed at work, or perhaps something from your past is affecting your life today. Whatever it is, I provide a safe, warm place in which you can talk things through in confidence, where you will be listened to with compassion, understanding and without judgement. I believe in the power of relationship: building a relationship with you where trust and acceptance facilitate open communication about the things that are troubling you. I offer face to face counselling in Chippenham or via video, telephone & IM.

You might be struggling with something difficult in the here and now, such as the loss of a loved one, or the breakdown of a relationship. Or perhaps you’re aware of vague, underlying feelings of sadness, anxiety or anger. Maybe you feel trapped in a cycle of repeated disappointments with partners, friends and careers and don’t know why. Whether you know what the problem is, or even if you don’t, therapy can help. It’s an opportunity to explore yourself; to examine feelings, thoughts and motivations and gain understanding - the first step towards navigating a different, happier course.

I have experience in a wide range of issues: Affairs and betrayals; Anger; Anxiety; Child related; Caring for others; Confidence; Depression; Family; Low self esteem; Relationships; Self Harm; Separation and divorce; Sexual, mental and/or physical abuse; Stress; Suicidal thoughts/ family history of suicide; Trauma; Work stress; Fertility/Infertility
I am a warm hearted, open-minded individual who understands how difficult taking the first steps into counselling can sometimes be. Many people have 'life events' that bring them to counselling such as relationship breakdown, bereavement, or redundancy. Often feelings that accompany these life events can lead to depression and anxiety. Or it may be that suppressed or undesired feelings keep recurring, leading to painful repeating patterns of behavior or outcomes in your life. My role in your therapeutic journey is to facilitate your awareness, to gently challenge perspective where appropriate and to walk alongside you at your pace.

Sometimes life can throw us a curve ball, leaving us reeling and unsure which way to turn. Relationships, separations, difficult upbringings and losses can all cause tensions and heartache. If you are a young person, you might be finding school, friends, family or career choices overwhelming and confusing. In these situations, it's normal to feel anxious, depressed or stuck, finding ourselves getting upset over the little things, questioning our worth or wondering who we really are. I can help you to explore your troubles, find your true self, reflect on your choices and move confidently towards a healing outcome.

Life can sometimes be difficult. There may be times when we find ourselves experiencing stress, anxiety, panic, or struggling with extremely low moods or bouts of depression. Maybe you find yourself struggling with life's difficulties, often feeling isolated and alone, believing that there isn't anyone you can turn to, including work colleagues, friends or family. Maybe past experience has taught you not to trust anyone with your feelings. Or maybe you find yourself believing that no one truly understands what you are going through.

Whatever issues you are facing right now, I offer a safe, confidential and judgement-free space in which we can reflect on them and, by better understanding your conflicts and experiences, grow in self-awareness and autonomy. I believe in the importance of building a trusting relationship with my clients, so that we can work together toward constructing meaningful relationships. Talking freely about whatever comes to mind is the main way to explore what is beyond our logical, rational mind.

I work with/welcome a variety of clients/backgrounds, but I specialise in working with young adults and LGBTQ+community. As a queer counsellor, I understand the importance of having a space that is judgement free, where you don’t have to explain your queerness and can simply be yourself with someone who ‘get’s it’. During our sessions I provide a warm, non-judgmental, and open space, where each session is yours and you can bring whatever feels useful for you. Together, we can explore and untangle what is going on for you, deepen your understanding of yourself, and begin to figure out ways to move forward, that feel right for you.

I help people who are feeling low, stressed, or 'like something isn't right'. First by building an understanding of their experience, then working with them towards recovery and beyond- to help them thrive. My work often involves; clarifying what's important to someone and helping them attain it, helping people to overcome the effect of a difficult experience, or simply assisting them to understand themselves better. I use evidence-based therapies and can also incorporate Stoic or other philosophical viewpoints to help build personal resilience and gain the confidence to live authentically.

Perhaps you are experiencing stress, low-self esteem, the effects of trauma, bereavement or depression. Maybe you feel that something isn't quite 'right'. If so, psychotherapy could be used to help you gain self-acceptance, and a deeper understanding of what makes you 'tick' and what doesn't. Psychotherapy is typically a weekly meeting of fifty minutes, often over a medium to long term. With time and commitment, we aim to build what may be called a 'therapeutic alliance' that allows you to feel able to safely explore and eventually understand and come to terms with difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences both current and past.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
