I have specialist experience in working with children and young people, working along side parents.
At times we all experience symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, low self esteem/confidence, anger or have family or relationship issues which make us feel alone and scared. Perhaps you question if you have ADHD or Autism? We can feel  trapped by these feelings and unable to move forward with life. Talking to an experienced therapist can help you to understand and alleviate these feelings. You are not alone with this, it is common to struggle with thinking and feelings, at different times of our lives. Why not book an initial session, without obligation, to see if counselling would work for you?

As a qualified Humanistic and Integrative counsellor, if you choose to work with me I will value your uniqueness, listen to you and witness your story without judgement. At times, we may all need to reach out and seek help in our life-journeys. We may need help to find out how we really feel and who we really are or would like to be, and feel more empowered. My charges range from £30 to £70 per session depending on individual financial circumstances.

Change is possible.....On the outside things look fine, but inside there’s a strain, a pressure, or an internal voice that doubts you. When you’re just managing to get through the day and the things that usually help don’t seem to work anymore, it’s easy to start feeling on edge or disconnected. Sleepless nights may appear, or your body might carry more tension, aches, or tightness than it used to. Overwhelm can creep in, and you might find yourself stuck in loops of worry, self-doubt, or endless what-ifs.

I am a warm hearted, open-minded individual who understands how difficult taking the first steps into counselling can sometimes be. Many people have 'life events' that bring them to counselling such as relationship breakdown, bereavement, or redundancy. Often feelings that accompany these life events can lead to depression and anxiety. Or it may be that suppressed or undesired feelings keep recurring, leading to painful repeating patterns of behavior or outcomes in your life. My role in your therapeutic journey is to facilitate your awareness, to gently challenge perspective where appropriate and to walk alongside you at your pace.

You might be struggling with something difficult in the here and now, such as the loss of a loved one, or the breakdown of a relationship. Or perhaps you’re aware of vague, underlying feelings of sadness, anxiety or anger. Maybe you feel trapped in a cycle of repeated disappointments with partners, friends and careers and don’t know why. Whether you know what the problem is, or even if you don’t, therapy can help. It’s an opportunity to explore yourself; to examine feelings, thoughts and motivations and gain understanding - the first step towards navigating a different, happier course.

Sometimes life can throw us a curve ball, leaving us reeling and unsure which way to turn. Relationships, separations, difficult upbringings and losses can all cause tensions and heartache. If you are a young person, you might be finding school, friends, family or career choices overwhelming and confusing. In these situations, it's normal to feel anxious, depressed or stuck, finding ourselves getting upset over the little things, questioning our worth or wondering who we really are. I can help you to explore your troubles, find your true self, reflect on your choices and move confidently towards a healing outcome.

I work with children, young people (5-25), parents and families, not with adults as individuals.
Children, especially younger ones, may need to come with a family member, and may "just" want to play. Play can access deep feelings and thoughts that may be unavailable to the conscious mind. Older children / young people may come by themselves and may just want to talk. If children don't want to come, parent support sessions can help

Are you struggling with a relationship or juggling the competing demands of your private and professional life? Are you feeling stuck and uncertain about how to fulfil your potential? Have you recently lost someone close to you? I first sought help as a young mother and the benefits were so enormous, I chose to train as a psychotherapist myself. I work one-to-one and with couples, helping you to identify patterns in your relationship with others, and with yourself, and establishing ways of changing those patterns that do not serve you.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
