Choosing to have counselling can be a daunting step and I fully understand that. We all need someone to talk to and to feel heard and understood. As a Person-Centred BACP Accredited Counsellor my aim is to support you, in a safe confidential space to explore whatever difficulties you are experiencing, without any judgement. I am here to help you understand yourself a bit more, unravel your thoughts and feelings and work towards you feeling better and happier, possibly make changes and feel more able to function. I firmly believe in this quote: 'People start to heal the moment they feel heard'

Hello and welcome. I hope that I can help you with whatever it is that you are struggling with, be it grief, loss, trauma, change, anxiety, depression, stress etc. What makes you you is a unique blend of factors but at the same time it is good to know that it is very, very common to struggle or to need to make changes. I hope to offer a safe space for you to explore yourself (if that is what is needed) and to cope with your struggles.

You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or caught in looping thoughts that don’t seem to settle, even when you try to move forward. You might sense something isn’t quite right, or find yourself stuck in patterns that don’t shift. I offer a calm, confidential space where you don’t have to perform or get it “right”. You can slow things down, speak openly, and feel genuinely understood. I work with anxiety, low mood, burnout, relationship difficulties and repeating patterns, including those who are neurodivergent or exploring whether they might be.

I have worked with children and young people who present with a range of issues, specialising on all types of anxieties, OCD, phobias, trauma and depression.
Being worried and anxious can effect our whole lives. It may mean that we start to complete rituals to combat this anxiousness or it may mean that we avoid things (e.g. going to school) and stop doing things we previously enjoyed (e.g. social activities like clubs or hobbies). Similarly, if we feel low it might be difficult to get out of bed or be active. We might feel different to others, like we don’t fit in or we are not good enough. We may also be experiencing urges to self-harm or be having suicidal thoughts. Together, we can explore these thoughts and outline a plan to help you to feel better.

Life experiences may bring feelings of anger, fear or pain and by talking and understanding your individual situation together we can begin to make sense of it. Counselling can help you to deal with and recognise stress, anxiety, anger and any other emotions you may be experiencing. Having a safe place where you can just be yourself, express your feelings and emotions without having to feel you are burdening your loved ones can make all the difference.

Thank you for visiting my page. I appreciate that seeking Psychological Therapy can be a daunting process, whether that be for yourself or a family member. I recognise that a significant part of the therapy process is establishing a positive relationship with those I support. I work mostly with adolescents, young people and adults and offer a flexible approach, drawing on a range of evidence-based interventions to try and find to the right avenue of support for your needs and goals. Alongside my private practice I lecture at the Anna Freud Centre providing training and development for future therapists.

My therapy approach has been particularly effective with clients with low-self esteem, depression, worry, OCD, trauma experiences and social anxiety.
Experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, has complimented my delivery of CBT as this allows my therapy approach to recognise the importance addressing all aspects of health: sleep, exercise and nutrition - all playing a role in the individual’s wellbeing. I am also trained in EMDR to treat PTSD and other trauma related problems.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
