I'm an experienced practitioner, having worked with a variety of people with many different issues but my specialities are: grief/loss, trauma including sexual trauma & relationships.
Are you stressed, depressed, anxious, sad or just not feeling yourself? Then counselling might be something that can help you, whether it is a new concern or a long held one. Sometimes emotional pain or life events can temporarily cloud your ability to see possible solutions, leaving you feeling stuck, confused, unhappy, anxious, sad or even shut down. The process of talking about this can gradually make things seem clearer as you make sense of your feelings and your thoughts become more ordered. You can feel change taking place, sometimes to your own surprise and so start to find a way forward that feels right for you.

Do you feel that despite efforts to improve your life, the way you are feeling continues to have a negative impact on your mood, motivation, relationships and how you cope with everyday life?
These concerns are often more responsive to psychological interventions that are integrative and can therefore cater for the unique nature of each person’s experience. We would work together to understand your needs and develop your sense of SELF from which you can grow in resilience and as a person.

I specialise in working with Queer and Neurodivergent individuals, and couples in both monogamous and non-monogamous practise.
I work predominantly with queer, neurodivergent clients as I believe that it is essential to work with a therapist that understands your lived experience of being queer in a heteronormative and neurotypical world. I am always clear about the boundaries of my competence, and will let you know in the assessment session if I believe that I can be a useful and enriching therapist for you.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
