I strive to provide an environment of genuine empathy, where you feel truly heard and understood. It’s a sign of strength, not weakness, to recognise when we need that extra support. Life’s journey is rarely smooth. It’s about giving yourself the time and space, to navigate the future challenges. Together, we can explore your experiences, identify strengths, and work towards goals at a pace that’s comfortable for you.

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. Maybe you’ve been holding it together for a long time, pushing through, keeping busy, looking after everyone else. But underneath, things feel numb or too much. You’re tired, overwhelmed, unsure who you even are anymore. Maybe the anxiety, stress or ups and downs are getting harder to ignore. I love working with people who have reached that point. The ones who are ready to stop pretending and start figuring out what they actually need. Therapy with me at The Self Discovery Project is a deep dive. It’s thorough, creative and empowering. We get to the roots and help you feel more like you again.

Hello, my name is Maggie, I’m a qualified counsellor, and based in Derbyshire. I specialise in working with children and adolescents, also working with adults, experiencing concerns, such as depression, anxiety, bereavement and stress. I provide a safe and confidential place for you to discuss worries and concerns and find a way to move forward. Whilst working with children/adolescents, I like to work with family, incorporating this in the sessions, by one or both parents attending some of the counselling sessions, if this is appropriate. I believe working all together can and does improve the building of a healthy relationship.

Are you struggling with a loss or bereavement? These can be the most painful and devastating experiences to go through. Perhaps you feel on your own, drowning in an emotional whirlpool of sadness, guilt, anger, confusion and other painful feelings. Enduring that whilst having to continue daily life can be exhausting, you might feel disconnected from everyone and everything sometimes. You might feel really isolated, anxious and hopeless and wondering how long you’re going to feel like this? The need to keep all this to yourself, perhaps hiding how you’re feeling from everyone else can keep you stuck in an endless cycle of sadness

Hi, I’m Sharon. Is your work/life balance out of kilter? Finding more stress at every turn? Never catching up on sleep and rest? I too have felt overwhelmed with the pressure and dangers of the job. I have been exhausted after a shift but when my head hits the pillow, I’m wide awake. I’m visualising what I’ve seen and I’m reviewing, wondering if I could have done better. I have felt trapped and stuck in the job and have felt very demotivated and unsupported… I get it. I can offer you unrestricted therapy sessions with no detriment to your career. You decide when to start and when to stop.

All of us, at times, find ourselves in a place of challenge, pain or trauma, or perhaps simply wanting to see a way forward and change the situation we’re in. Looking for a counsellor takes courage and is hugely positive too because it shows you’re ready for the changes you want to see happen in your life. I am a person-centred psychotherapist ready to support you in that change, and happy to work with you face to face or online, and at whatever pace works best for you.

Living with the impact of trauma and PTSD can make it difficult to feel safe enough to connect with others. The lasting impacts of trauma can negatively affect our mood, relationships, physical health and self esteem. Ongoing mental health difficulties can prevent us from being the person we want to be, and living the life we want to live. I offer a calm and compassionate space where you can feel safe to reflect on the experiences you have been through. We will work together to understand what has helped you to survive so far, and how to work towards a better future.

There is no right or wrong reason for seeking counselling. It can help individuals learn, grow and understand. It can help people to make sense of circumstances or emotions that they are experiencing. It can offer an opportunity to explore and speak about things which simply aren’t talked about with anyone else. It can be helpful, informative, challenging and emotional. It can be whatever you need it to be. Our work together is driven by you; your experience, your preferences, your needs and your goals. I will seek to understand you and your experiences and what you hope to be different once our work together ends.

I believe that counselling is not just for crisis, but it helps to deal with everyday stresses and worries. I aim to help you feel at ease so you can talk freely about whatever worries you. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, loss, substance misuse, negative behaviour patterns, perimenopause, abuse, family or relationship challenges, sexuality, or lack of self-esteem and confidence, l am here to help. My background includes working with individuals of all ages, as well as couples. I have a strong passion for supporting teenagers. But ultimately, even as adults, we all carry our inner wounded child inside.

I work with a wide range of issues. My role as a psychotherapist is to listen to you with sensitivity and empathy and without judgement or rushing you. In this way, we can both try to make sense of what has happened up to this point in time. You may be feeling depressed, anxious, stressed or heartbroken because of it. These are natural emotional responses to what has gone on - however if this has been going for a while, or you don't have someone to talk to, I could be able to help.

How can I find a therapist in Coningsby?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
