Thank you for being here , my name is Sarah. I have over 20 years experience in nursing and mental health. I am a counsellor and also a children's mentor. I welcome anyone who is curious about understanding themselves, their emotions and the experiences that have shaped their journey. You may be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in patterns you don't understand, or seeking support through times of change and uncertainty. Together, we can gently explore what has brought you to this point, develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion, and support you in moving forward with a strong sense of self.

I am now offering face to face counselling, telephone counselling is still available if you prefer.
At times life can be challenging and can sometimes feel overwhelming. Finding yourself looking at counsellors it seems you have already made the decision that things need to change. I understand how difficult this first step can be and the courage needed to take the plunge to make that call and ask for help. I can offer you a warm and caring space where you will be supported whilst you start to look at the issues that are troubling you and together we can unravel the emotions and confusion that is holding you back from living a happy and fulfilled life.

I am accepting new clients offering therapy by telephone or video sessions until we are able to meet in person when restrictions are lifted
I offer a confidential, warm and supportive environment, so that you may feel comfortable enough to explore what has brought you to counselling. Together we work, at your pace, with what is informing your emotions and responses so that awareness, understanding and change may happen. Conflict within ourselves or in a relationship with others can leave us with a lack of clarity, feeling confused, sometimes anxious and depressed. Loss can leave us overwhelmed. Working with our past and present experiences can enable us to live our life in an authentic and fulfilling way, one which is right for us and a new way of being can be found.

If the difficulties feel like they are persisting and you need support I can help with: Anxiety, including social anxiety, generalised anxiety, separation anxiety and panic, low mood and depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or dealing with traumatic experiences, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It may be that the difficulties you are experiencing overlap and this can be common.

I work face-to-face from Tuudae Sutton Coldfield on Tuesdays, and can offer online or phone appointments on Mondays or Tuesdays.
Taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’re used to coping on your own. You might be functioning on the outside, but inside you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns that are getting you down. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you don’t have to carry it by yourself. Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. You may have an idea of what feels wrong, but feel unsure how to move forward, or whether change is possible.

Psychotherapist, MSc, MUKCP
I offer therapy in-person or online.
Life problems are most often programmed into and manifested in our relationships with ourselves, with others and the world around us. Our early social networks, our personalities, and our environments interact to influence how we view & experience life in the present day and how we habitually respond to it. How we grew up and our world as adults sometimes unknowingly constrain how we can think, feel, and cope with life. My treatment approach aims to give you freedom to live with more purpose, fulfilment, choice to make new decisions, and self-understanding and mastery moving forward.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
