I am interested in
somatic
experiences, how your body holds your experiences.
Hi, I'm Mary, I am a UKCP Trainee Psychotherapist working. I offer counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples & groups. I help you help yourself, heal yourself and be yourself. I aim to help people achieve their fullest potential in life, whatever that might look like for them. I work relationally, which means our relationship is an important part of our work. Looking at how we relate to each other can give us clues as to how you might relate to people in general. This method of working can highlight any stumbling blocks or areas for change, to help you achieve better communication and understanding in your relationships.

Hi there, my name is Ellie and I am a Counsellor specializing in trauma and the common coping skills that develop from it's effects. These include the areas of disordered eating, body image issues (including body dysmorphia), addiction (self-medicating to avoid the effects of trauma), being drawn to abusive relationships and patterns of becoming stuck and paralyzed in these damaging dynamics. The heart of my therapeutic work is to help clients discover their authentic self and to gently dis-engage from painful old beliefs they may have internalized from complex and overwhelming environments.

Hello! I am an experienced and energetic practitioner I experience many clients saying that they don’t believe that their problems are bad enough, that there must be others in need who are suffering more, or that it is indulgent to go for counselling. I walk alongside you as you explore your unique life experiences and bring them for healing. I am a qualified counsellor and coach. Psychoynamic,
somatic
, humanistic, transpersonal and existential (if these words mean anything to you!).
While you may be seeking therapy to help you out of a dark or difficult time- due to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, crisis of meaning, insomnia... therapy can be a powerful gift. We learn a great deal about ourselves and others- ultimately about living life with more ease and enjoyment. We'll get curious about what you learnt growing up: your world-view, your assumptions and even your bodily responses to situations that you face today. We'll see what has worked for you and what causes pain or limits you- to unblock and clear the path forward with compassion, kindness, insight, and even at times, a sense of humour.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
