A warm, relational approach is the foundation of my work with children, young people and their parents. As an Integrative Child and
Adolescent
Psychotherapist, I aim to enable each person to communicate and feel understood from the depth of their experience. This means finding each person's unique ways of expressing themselves, and tailoring my technique to meet them "where they're at". I create a safe space so that children and young people are able to bring their most painful feelings and thoughts out into the room with me. At the same time, humour and fun are important elements of my work.

i worked for Child and
Adolescent
Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for 4 years.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy for children, young people, parents and adults. Young people can often have worries that they find hard to talk to their parents about. Talking to someone outside the family can often make all the difference. I offer space for parents to talk about their worries and work on their parenting strategies. Sometimes a few sessions are all that is needed to make a big change in the family. Sometimes I work with a parent and child together if there are particular relationship issues. I also work with adults for individual problems.

Do you need someone to listen? Do you feel you’re not heard or seen? Do you feel misunderstood, to blame, angry, sad, anxious, disillusioned? Is family life, work or other relationships getting too much to cope with? Throughout life, we are often left with feelings of low self worth, anger, sadness or may feel powerless. We can become confused about who we are, what we need and where life is taking us. This accumulation over many years blinds us to who we really are and sometimes we need help to find out. I believe I can help you.

Sometimes, children and young people need a little extra support to guide them through difficult times in their lives. They may be encountering challenges and would benefit from talking in a safe and comfortable environment to explore feelings and worries. Children can relate to me and I strive to do my best for them. I’m able to adapt my counselling style to suit clients' individual needs (eg I use play & art when working with young children to support them effectively)

Hi there, my name is Ellie and I am a Counsellor specializing in trauma and the common coping skills that develop from it's effects. These include the areas of disordered eating, body image issues (including body dysmorphia), addiction (self-medicating to avoid the effects of trauma), being drawn to abusive relationships and patterns of becoming stuck and paralyzed in these damaging dynamics. The heart of my therapeutic work is to help clients discover their authentic self and to gently dis-engage from painful old beliefs they may have internalized from complex and overwhelming environments.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
