Hello there, I’m James and I am a counsellor offering Friday sessions in the Weston area. Life can be difficult, sometimes traumatic and we often need someone professional to talk to and guide us to find solutions or acceptance to the problems we are facing in a way that best suits us. Whether you're anxious, depressed, stuck, unhappy or lost, I can offer you a confidential and caring space to explore issues that might be keeping you from finding the contentment and happiness you seek. Whatever approach we decide to follow it is important that you leave each session feeling accepted and understood.

I also bring 12 years' experience supporting young people with social, emotional, and neurodivergent needs.
Hi, I’m Sharon, a BACP registered therapist and founder of Rosemount Therapy. I support women who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Maybe you find yourself here because life feels heavy and you are tired of holding it all together. You may spend your energy caring for others yet feel disconnected from yourself, weighed down by people-pleasing, self-doubt, or overthinking. Deep down you want to feel calmer, more confident, and more at home in your own skin. Therapy with me offers a gentle space to be heard, understood, gain clarity and to begin reconnecting with your authentic self.

In the therapy room, the thinking and feeling process is shared. Together, we might try to find a different perspective or explore how the past might be impacting on the present. We may look at what is happening in your life right now and what you feel about this. We could think about how you might want to change or consider how to manage when there are things we cannot change. The environments we have lived, studied and worked in affect us deeply and there are times when we need support to negotiate this, or a safe space to help us make sense of it all.

I have experience working with ADHD, autism, OCD, grief, and trauma.
Every so often life throws things at us that we struggle to deal with or understand. This can be anything from the loss of a loved one to break down in relationship with family members to receiving a life changing diagnosis. It can be because of these things that we begin to question things in our everyday life and who we are. Having suffered a grief which ultimately changed the course of my life, experienced breakdowns in relationships, supported my own child through an ADHD diagnosis and not understanding how my past had affected me I understand how it feels to go through these struggles.

Many of us have spent years trying to adapt to fit social expectations, in the case of autistic, neurodivergent & other marginalised people - masking.
Many of us experience times when life feels hard - whether it's something we've been struggling with for a long time, or a present problem causing us pain or holding us back from living the life we want. At the heart of my work is building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel safe to share your story and explore what's troubling you in a warm, confidential, non-judgemental space. I believe all of us are doing the best we can, often in less than ideal circumstances, and I'll work alongside you at your own pace, gently uncovering new perspectives and possibilities for meaningful change & healing.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
