I work with people feeling overwhelmed and anxious-including parents, SEN parents and carers.
As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I draw on my experience which includes working in the NHS as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, to tailor therapy to meet your needs and goals.
Maybe you'd like to process a distressing or traumatic experience, find strategies to feel calmer, nurture your relationships or live closer to your values.

I specialise in ANXIETY, LOW MOOD, RELATIONSHIPS, ANGER MANAGEMENT, COMMUNICATION ISSUES, STRESS, LOSS OF DIRECTION and BEREAVEMENT, and I work in other wider therapy areas, as most clients each have their own personal mixture of issues.
I offer therapy and supervision that starts with what you bring; making no assumptions, listening with empathy and working with you towards growth and change. The client-therapist relationship is vital, as we need to trust each other in order to work together effectively (getting the right therapist for you is more important than gaining a client for me). I offer weekly, fortnightly, monthly and ad hoc sessions. Please EMAIL/TEXT as I cannot answer the phone when with clients and I don’t want to miss your call. Jan 2023 - I currently have no evening, after 6pm, sessions available

I provide counselling for anxiety, relationships, perfectionism, persistent worry and low mood, low self-esteem, communication issues, people pleasing, life coaching, and parenting issues.
My counselling practice is centred on the belief that difficulties can send us ‘off-track’ but we all have the capacity to find our way back, we might just need a little help. I work with what you bring, using the counselling approach that meets your individual needs, rather than fitting your needs into a predecided approach. For example you may need some immediate help with tools to manage your current symptoms, and then later want to look deeper into discovering the cause of those symptoms. Whatever you bring I will offer you the care, empathy and understanding without judgement.

Anxiety can rise, health anxiety feels very real, we can feel confused and lonely wondering how can we reach out and feel less alone, along with feeling listened to and supported.
Reaching out and being able to speak to someone to help reduce the anxiety, or those overwhelming feelings that you may feel can help to rationalise what is going on. Together we can look for new ways of managing any stress and anxiety so that you feel more in control and able to cope.

The most common problems I see include: Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia, Health Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Phobias.
I have over 10 years of experience working with adults to overcome mental health problems. CBT is an ideal treatment for those who are looking to change, whether that be to make some changes in the way in which you think about things, or some changes in the way in which you do things day to day. CBT can also help clients come to an understanding of 'why', E.G. what is it about you, your experiences & vulnerabilities which perhaps help explain why you struggle. This is often validating & helpful rather than self blaming. Together we will equip you with the skills and understanding you need in order to move forward with confidence.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
