Life can feel like you're barely keeping your head above water when you’re dealing with big changes, uncertainty, or emotional strain. It’s tempting to do nothing, convincing yourself that staying small is the safest option—but deep down, you know it’s not. It just leaves you stuck and alone. These moments creep up, showing as stress, overwhelm, fear, or anxiety that grows and can get too much. You might even notice it physically—the tension, the sleepless nights, the fatigue—or mentally through low mood, anxiety or both, as if your mind is on a loop, replaying the same worries.

I draw on different therapeutic approaches, (including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion Focussed Therapy).
Hello and welcome. There are many difficulties we can face which make life feel harder to manage. At different times we all experience challenges with managing our mental and emotional wellbeing - perhaps in relation to significant life events, work, transitions, accidents or illnesses. Often we draw on our usual ways of coping to get us through, but sometimes it can be helpful to make sense of our experiences with someone who can offer a non-judgmental, compassionate space which is entirely yours.

Life can be difficult, sometimes traumatic and we often need someone professional to talk to and guide us to find solutions or acceptance to the problems we are facing in a way that best suits us.
Although my service is open to all age ranges from early teens upwards, I have particular specialist knowledge and experience in working with teenagers, and clients with learning differences. I am also experienced in using a wide range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural therapies and Humanistic approaches to therapy.

In addition to CBT, I have completed EMDR training in 2014 and attended training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) which I integrate into my clinical work as appropriate.
I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2004 and have worked in NHS adult psychological therapies services since that time. I have worked as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Lead Clinician for an NHS service in West London before re-locating to the South-West and working in private practice.

My clients often look like they’re coping. They appear capable and responsible, sometimes highly successful, yet privately they are often anxious, disconnected, self-critical or exhausted. Some carry complex trauma or PTSD; others just know something doesn’t feel right. Many have learned to be the strong one. They don’t just want symptom relief — they want to understand their patterns, feel calmer, build steadier relationships and feel at home in who they truly are. They want the opportunity of a therapeutic relationship that will help them heal from their emotional wounds and unburden themselves.

I offer Integrative therapy in Occupational Therapy & Mindfulness-Based Approaches, interweaving concepts & practices in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused & Somatic-Focused therapy.
I bring many years of experience working with mental health & non-visible health conditions, helping people manage the interaction of health challenges such as fatigue, pain, brain fog, low mood, anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, emotional overwhelm & dysregulation. I help build pathways to feeling more anchored, more autonomous, more able to manage daily life. This can mean many different things- maybe building helpful rhythms, habits & more meaning into our lives; managing symptoms; feeling more regulated in our mind & body; breaking cycles of masking, over-doing, people-pleasing; maybe it's towards re-connecting with ourselves.

Most of the people I work with are in their 20s and 30s and have spent years being the reliable one. The one who keeps going, keeps everyone happy, and somehow holds everything together. From the outside, they often look like they're coping. Inside, they're exhausted. Many come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or questioning what they actually want from life. They may struggle with anxiety, ADHD, burnout, low self-worth, people-pleasing, or repeating the same relationship patterns. Together, we make sense of what's beneath the surface so they can stop living on autopilot and start making choices

The range of psychological approaches I use include: Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy ( ACT) Mindfulness interventions, Solution Focused, Attachment Theory, Gentle Parenting.
I love working with people, getting to know you and hearing your story. I believe that we are all unique. One of the things I love most about my work is the privilege of seeing someone begin to thrive and to enjoy their life again. I love helping to find some inner calm, clarity of thought and to be practicing self compassion as part of their everyday lives. I work in a bespoke way, tailor making my approach to each person. However, that said, everyone's needs compassion and so a compassion focused therapy approach runs through all of my work. I am most definitely a human first and a psychologist second.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
