Parenting Counselling in Claygate
Hello and Welcome, Life can indeed be difficult at times. Many are struggling with mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings can rise to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a PHD(Hon), Master Degree and EMDR(Accredited), I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues and undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

If you are looking for couples therapy, or if you are seeking individual counselling with a focus on relationships (whether intimate, work or family) I can potentially help. I trained to MA level at a leading centre for relationship therapy, and I'm one of very few men working in the field. When working with couples, my aim is to enable better conversations, build understanding, so that both partners can be more content. With individuals, it's often about having a conversation with yourself, and to consider how you are in relation to others.

Welcome. If you’re scrolling through profile after profile and feeling unsure, I understand. It can be confusing trying to find the “right” person. You might be feeling anxious, low, grieving a loss, at a turning point—or just not yourself. Whatever you're holding right now, this could be the place to begin working through it.
I offer a safe, confidential space to talk, reflect, and gently unravel what's going on. Together, we can look at where you are today and what might be shaping your experience—your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I work in an integrative way, which means the therapy is shaped around you.

I value working deeply and curiously to untangle challenges in people's experiences. So often we are stuck in relationships or in situations that don't serve us. However, with support, we can find out about where these issues originate and how to move forward with compassion. I work with attachment theory to unpick relational patterns and look at reactions and choices we make in life. I work with clients' Parts to begin to understand their inner world and build new ways of communicating, growing self-esteem and confidence. I love working with clients from a base of an authentic and trusting relationship on a medium/long-term basis.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
