I have experience of working with teenagers and adults across a huge scope of areas which particular expertise in attachment, addiction, anxiety , depression, trauma, neuro-diveristy, bereavement, work related stress and relationship issues.
As a counsellor, I practice in a pluralistic way which means I draw upon different theoretical approaches when I work with you as an individual – after all, there is only one of you in the world! My aim is to attune to your individual needs and I strive to work in an authentic down to earth way that is interactive and collaborative. Counselling can be daunting so I will work with you at your pace, offering you a space that is non-judgemental, respectful and confidential. Everyone is different, but having a space to talk and actually be heard can be extremely powerful and healing; leading to a greater understanding of yourself.

I offer face to face counselling for adults experiencing anxiety , burnout, depression and the psychological injuries of abuse and trauma from my comfortable and private therapy room in Chislehurst and UK-wide online.
Do you worry about tomorrow, feel uncertain and overwhelmed or find your mind racing in circles? Are you looking for help to understand and relieve symptoms of social or existential anxiety ? Or perhaps you are experiencing low self-esteem, burnout or depression? The demands of modern life can feel overwhelming and our purpose and future uncertain. Our relationships with loved ones, colleagues and even ourselves can suffer. We can feel reluctant to reach out to friends or family with our concerns, in case we upset or overburden them. And the idea of having therapy may feel uncomfortable or even self-indulgent.

My experience includes working with clients with a range of issues including stress, anxiety , depression, relationship difficulties, loss, child abuse, self harm/suicidal thoughts.
People usually seek therapy because they have reached a crisis point in their life and are struggling to cope alone. This can lead to feeling stuck or creating unhelpful behaviour patterns to cope which present them from living life to their full potential. We often feel confused, anxious, depressed, emotionally numb or trapped in our past without clear goals in life or clear identity. I can offer you a safe space to explore better internal understanding which promotes self awareness, personal growth and inner peace which enables you to feel full of hope and clarity to achieve personal success.

I have supported clients going through bereavement and loss, suffering with anxiety and panic attacks; depression; low self-esteem; self-worth issues; and with survivors of domestic abuses including sexual abuse (male and female) and trauma.
When life feels out of focus it's good to talk. My name's Carolyne and I'm a trained integrative counsellor. I can support you to restore your self-confidence, work through your issues and help you recognise you matter too! Everyone’s unique as are our experiences. Something that is overwhelming or difficult to process for you may not be the same for those around you and that’s ok. I’m here to help you unpick what is going on for you in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment. So, rather than ignoring the elephant in the room, lets invite it in and talk.

I have also worked with MIND with clients who have sought help for a wide range of problems such as abuse, abandonment, depression, anxiety , relationship difficulties with one or both parents.
Let's Talk... Therapy gives you the opportunity to explore how life is for you, how you feel about it and how you react during certain situations, all with the aim of finding solutions that work for you. My aim is to provide a confidential, non-judgemental and accepting environment where I can help you explore your issues no matter what they are. Unresolved issues can cause great unhappiness and therapy can help to unlock suppressed feelings and emotions.

I have experience of working with clients on issues such as depression and low mood, anxiety , loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, anger management, abuse, relationships difficulties, work related issues, addiction, exam stress, child and adolescent issues, adoption and fostering, health issues, personal development and general counselling.
If you are considering how therapy can support you through challenging life events, I can support you by offering a safe and confidential space in which you can begin to examine what may feel impossible right now to resolve by yourself; without fear of being judged and experience, perhaps for the first time, a real feeling of being heard. I work by helping you to explore your thoughts, emotions and life story so far, with the aim of both of us understanding & together making sense of the difficulties you are experiencing. Together, we will then seek a way of moving forward positively.

We may use different words to describe what's going on for us when we are looking for therapy: unsure, fed up, low, empty, frustrated, anxious, panicky, over-thinking, unable to sleep, too sensitive, or like can't carry on... Perhaps feeling not in control, not belonging, invisible or wanting to escape, or lost. It can be overwhelming, taking too much from us. So starting therapy is right. We can use therapy space, free of judgement, expectation or failure, to talk it all through and work things out.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
