Parenting Counselling in Chippenham
I am passionate about early intervention, whether this is working directly with children, offering parent-infant therapy or working directly with parents.
If you are looking to uncover the roots of your child’s distress and support them in finding healthier ways to cope and communicate a therapeutic space can be beneficial. Having trained at UCL/Anna Freud Centre and as a member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists and the British Psychotherapy Foundation, I bring extensive experience from CAMHS, private practice, and fostering services, including work with trauma and complex needs when helping families understand and manage their children’s emotions and behaviour.

You may be here because something in your life feels stuck, painful, or confusing – and you’re ready for change. Perhaps it’s how you feel or behave. Maybe it’s how others see you – or how you see yourself. You might be caught in patterns of overthinking, relationship struggles, or self-doubt.
Whatever brings you here, individual therapy offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore it. A space to understand what’s going on beneath the surface – and how to move forward. I am registered with the BACP and hold a clinical MSc in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

I am a warm hearted, open-minded individual who understands how difficult taking the first steps into counselling can sometimes be. Many people have 'life events' that bring them to counselling such as relationship breakdown, bereavement, or redundancy. Often feelings that accompany these life events can lead to depression and anxiety. Or it may be that suppressed or undesired feelings keep recurring, leading to painful repeating patterns of behavior or outcomes in your life. My role in your therapeutic journey is to facilitate your awareness, to gently challenge perspective where appropriate and to walk alongside you at your pace.

Change is possible.....On the outside things look fine, but inside there’s a strain, a pressure, or an internal voice that doubts you.
When you’re just managing to get through the day and the things that usually help don’t seem to work anymore, it’s easy to start feeling on edge or disconnected. Sleepless nights may appear, or your body might carry more tension, aches, or tightness than it used to. Overwhelm can creep in, and you might find yourself stuck in loops of worry, self-doubt, or endless what-ifs.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
