I am a warm hearted, open-minded individual who understands how difficult taking the first steps into counselling can sometimes be. Many people have 'life events' that bring them to counselling such as relationship breakdown, bereavement, or redundancy. Often feelings that accompany these life events can lead to depression and anxiety. Or it may be that suppressed or undesired feelings keep recurring, leading to painful repeating patterns of behavior or outcomes in your life. My role in your therapeutic journey is to facilitate your awareness, to gently challenge perspective where appropriate and to walk alongside you at your pace.

Hello, my name is Tanya. As a counsellor- psychotherapist for over 25 years and a supervisor for 15, I continue to see how helpful counselling can be. Are you finding life tough, trying to deal with stress, anxiety, loss, feeling low or depressed or the impact of spiritual issues, chronic health conditions, or abuse and trauma? I am sorry you are having to struggle - life can get us down and sometimes the most courageous thing we can do is to seek some support. In our first session you can tell me what you are dealing with and see if it feels ok to work with me. I am a somatic and trauma counsellor.

If you are feeling anxious, depressed or confused about your current situation, we will work collaboratively to gain further insight on how you are affected by this. In time you will have a better understanding of how to manage these concerns and arrive at a satisfactory resolution. Having worked in mental health for 23 years, I have gained specialist knowledge and experience of working with an extensive range of presenting issues. I trained as a humanistic/person-centred counsellor, then went on to train as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, added to that I work interculturally, providing a safe non-judgmental therapeutic space.

Seeking therapy is an act of courage and self-care. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from therapy with a psychologist; that's a common myth. Therapy isn't just for crises; it's also a powerful tool for growth, clarity, and emotional well-being. I work with people facing anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, and everyday stress. In a safe and confidential space, we explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Using evidence-based approaches, I help you gain insights, develop coping skills, and create meaningful and lasting change.

Life can often be seen that we put the needs of others' before our own, therefore neglecting ourselves and experiencing difficult environments and emotions. I offer time for 'you' to explore your own needs and provide this by short or long term therapy, based on your emotional needs. As an integrative therapist, I invite clients to experience different ways of exploring personal experiences and create positive change to the challenges that are faced. The therapy I offer is a process that helps you restore your natural sense of harmony and balance.

Not all difficulties are visible from the outside, nor fully resolved by competence, success, or endurance. Many people who come to my practice are highly capable, carrying responsibility, pressure, and often more than others realise. Others feel privately stuck despite outward stability. Difficulties may relate to trauma, dissociation, compulsive coping, childhood neglect, abuse, military service, or demanding professional or home environments. Having worked in the Square Mile, and been a stay at home Mum, I understand pressured cultures and help clients address what remains unresolved so life can move forward more freely.

For the past 18 years I have specialised in trauma and addiction, working with people within community-based organisations, schools, criminal justice systems, the NHS and Private Practice. I have a particular interest in how people make sense of their experiences. A particular lens through which this is viewed is narrative. This aims to be a respectful and non-blaming practice in which there is a collaboration to find the most satisfying story to live a preferred life. A pace for this work will be negotiated and agreed at the start and reviewed in each session or, when required.

I am an Integrative counsellor, Life Coach and NLP practitioner. I believe every client is unique and I like to work together with my clients to help them untangle their pasts and look forward to a brighter future. I will never judge you or your decisions, I understand life is never black and white and most of us do the best we can with the resources available to us. I work with those struggling with their own mental health and those who are supporting someone with mental health. I understand the fear of families trying to navigate often complex and slow MH systems. I am just a human sharing my experience and expertise.

The atmosphere that I aim to create in therapy is one of dynamic collaboration. This means that whilst you will ultimately determine the focus of our work, I will also be an active part of this process, regularly offering insight, reflections and relevant theoretical understandings. I believe that working in this way fosters vitality, helping to create movement in our sessions and in your life. To say more about me as a practitioner, I am a UKCP registered Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist-in-Training in my sixth year of study at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC).

Hello, I’m a HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist with 10 years’ of experience working for the NHS and privately with both adults and young people. I have spent eight years working in NHS crisis services, alongside two years as a Primary Mental Health Specialist. My work is trauma-informed and grounded in building a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship—shown through research to be the most important factor in effective all therapeutic interventions. Once this foundation is established, I draw from an integrative approach tailored to your needs. Although I am an art therapist I very often work with people through talk only.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Counsellors
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioural therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behaviour therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom which may include antipsychotics, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
