Think psychotherapists all wear floaty scarves and say “how does that make you feel?” Think again…
I work with people going through the messy bits of life, stuck at the crossroads between who you’ve been and who you want to become. Maybe it’s a relationship that doesn’t fit, a loss that has left lingering grief, a job that drains you, or that constant voice questioning your worth and identity. These are the moments that shake your sense of self, and they’re exactly where our work begins.

Hi, I'm Lisa, an integrative psychotherapist (PGDip), and an individual member of the BACP. I appreciate that starting your therapeutic journey is not easy. With this in mind, I strive to create a safe space that is confidential and professional, but also comfortable, compassionate, and empowering to facilitate your journey to improved well-being, mental health, and quality of life. As difficult as it can be to reach out for support, it can be just as difficult to stay where we are, especially if we are suffering. I hope that today you feel able to reach out and begin rebuilding your story.

Many of my clients are people who have lived with emotional or mental health challenges and are ready to find a gentler way forward. They may feel weighed down by the past, unsure how it has shaped their choices, yet hopeful for something different.
What my clients long for is understanding, compassion, and a safe space to be heard without judgement. Their goals are often to accept their past with kindness, reconnect with what matters most, and create a more present, fulfilling, and balanced life.

Therapy can be a place where you don’t have to perform or hold it all together. All parts of you are welcome - even the ones that feel too much, too vulnerable, or too ashamed.
You may feel lost in the world, as though you’ve never quite fitted in or learned how to feel safe within yourself.
Perhaps you’ve experienced relational or developmental wounds, abusive relationships, or have spent years adapting to survive rather than feeling truly seen and understood. I offer a warm, calm, and non-judgemental space where all parts of you are welcome. Including the vulnerable, confused, and the parts that feel overwheming.

You might be living with ongoing anxiety, stress, or burnout — even while appearing to cope well. You may be the one others rely on: the “strong one,” often holding relationships together behind the scenes. Inside, there can be constant tension, racing thoughts, shallow rest, or shame and loneliness.
Over time, this can affect relationships — how close you feel to others and how safe it feels to speak — as well as family life, work, and how you see yourself. Life can begin to feel like it’s happening on autopilot. What’s often needed is space to slow down and not carry it alone — without having to explain or perform.

Eating disorders affect people in many ways and accessing support is not dependent on looking a certain way (people with food and body image difficulties vary widely in terms of weight, shape, age, gender and background). Eating disorders often result in behaviours that are very difficult to change and as a result become habitual. It takes time, patience, support and understanding to address these. Eating disorder therapy can provide freedom from food anxiety, guilt or shame and create a sense of self worth that is not based on eating habits, body shape, weight or size.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
