Hello, I have been practising counselling and psychotherapy in North Wales and West Cheshire for twelve years. Over time I have worked with a diverse group of clients who come to see me about anxiety, stress, depression and low mood, and addictions. During this time years I have developed a speciality in trauma: this might be experienced as
PTSD
however one understands it, or it can be an event or series of events that just will not leave the person alone, will not give them peace. I have learned methods and interventions that help clients to effectively get over this and the other issues that I have mentioned above.

I know how important it is to look after our emotional well being irrespective of age. Stresses, strains and anxieties can hit at anytime. It maybe a current situation or something from our past which impacts on our ability to manage our current situation. Even anticipation of future events can impact on us at an emotional level. There are many reasons why counselling can be beneficial including low self-esteem, low self-confidence, bullying, family issues, bereavement, infant loss, relationship issues, and anger to name but a few, It takes strength and courage to acknowledge you may need help.

We all know life can get tough at times and we can struggle to see our way through it. Sometimes it helps to talk those experiences or feelings through with someone who can really listen and brings no agenda with them. There are so many reasons to come to therapy difficult times in life, things feeling not quite right, anxiety or depression or things from our past effecting us in the here and now (attachment or trauma). Therapy is a safe, neutral place you can use to explore what is happening for you, and it can support you in deciding how you want to manage it.

Are you feeling stuck? The only constant is change, yet sometimes change seems so difficult. I will work with you to find what's blocking you changing into who you really are. I won't diagnose or label you. I'll treat you as an individual who has their own unique history. Unpleasant symptoms like anxiety, addictions, phobias and depression are often rooted in early trauma which is surfacing to be healed. I'll help you reprocess any traumatic memories as well as looking at any current circumstances which are keeping you stuck.

At EMDR Treatment we know how powerful EMDR is in treating many mental health problems. We understand how frustrating it can be to find an EMDR Therapist nearby and available and believe that EMDR should be easily accessible, convenient and of the highest quality. Our therapists are all EMDR trained, qualified to deliver the therapy and experienced. We are able to provide EMDR online and face to face in many clinic locations across the UK. We understand the link between experiences we have and the impact these have on our mental health. EMDR can break this link meaning clients can move forward.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
