The person we are is a reflection of our mind and a result of our experiences. Hello, I'm Sona, an integrative counsellor at Mindfirst Counselling Ltd, offering in-person sessions in Chester and online sessions across the UK. People come to therapy carrying stories - of pain, helplessness, or struggle. My hope is to walk alongside you as we explore those stories together, and slowly transform them into ones of purpose, empowerment, and choice. Something does not have to be drastically wrong for you to seek support. Therapy can be for anyone, at any stage of life.

We are a team of therapists so no matter what it is that you are facing right now, we can offer a nurturing and compassionate space to explore so you don't have to feel alone. Whether you are looking for support with low mood, help with overcoming a terrible feeling of anxiety, if you struggle with eating, sleeping, socialising, motivation or even just getting out of bed in the morning to face the day... we understand. If life has always been hard or you're going through a really difficult time just now, or if you objectively think "life is great, I don't understand why I'm feeling like this?". We can help.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or unsure how to make sense of difficult experiences on your own. You might be struggling with trauma, identity, relationships, or finding confidence in who you are. Perhaps you notice anxiety, low mood, or tension in your body that feels hard to shift. If you are someone wanting to understand yourself more deeply, make sense of your story, and move towards a life that feels more grounded, authentic, and emotionally secure, I may be a good fit for you.

Regardless of your past, your family and your story, I believe that you have the ability to heal and thrive in your life. I am trained and experienced to sit with you to help you find YOUR answers. Together we go on a journey of discovery to see how you have got to where you are today but most importantly how you can find your power and strength to overcome your challenges. You deserve to be healthy, happy and at peace. You do not need to be in serious crisis to go for therapy.

Psychotherapist based online, or face-to-face near Wrexham and Chester (CH3). Many people come to therapy during the messy reality of trying to become, or being, a parent - navigating fertility treatment, pregnancy, birth trauma, relationship strain, separation, blended families, or co-parenting. Others feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in patterns that no longer work, or disconnected from themselves beneath the pressure of carrying too much for too long. Therapy offers a steady space to slow down, understand yourself more deeply, and begin relating differently.

Hello, I'm Glesni Roberts, the founder of Lighthouse Counselling. I'm a counsellor with a decade of experience, who helps people who are experiencing any type of loss, to feel that they can move on and live a fuller life. Loss doesn't only mean bereavement, it can mean the loss of a relationship or job, or even the loss of potential. I have worked with people with long term health conditions who talk about the loss of the life they thought they could have. It can even mean loss of identity when becoming a parent or when your children leave the nest.

Finding a therapist can feel like an overwhelming task, especially when we are at our most vulnerable. You might be struggling with something deeply personal, yet feel unable to express how you truly feel. Perhaps you worry about being judged, misunderstood, or triggering a reaction from someone in your life. Even if you have people around you, it can still feel lonely when you don't feel safe enough to open up.

I work with individuals who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling to make sense of what they’re experiencing. This might relate to anxiety, low mood, trauma, loss, or major life changes, or a more general sense that something doesn’t feel right. Therapy offers a space to slow things down, explore what’s been difficult, and begin to understand yourself with greater clarity and compassion, at a pace that feels manageable and supportive. Alongside my broader work, I have a focus on men’s mental health, providing a confidential and understanding space where men can explore their emotions, past experiences, and pressures faced in life.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
