My integrative and trauma-focused practice with appreciation for multicultural counselling can be beneficial in working with a range of concerns including anxiety,
depression
, trauma and unhelpful personality traits.
Sometimes 'stuff' happens and life gets complicated and challenging. These concerns can be recent, short-term, unanticipated or due to life experiences in the past. Such circumstances can prevent you from moving forward, remaining stuck in unhelpful patterns, and impact daily functioning. Seeking support takes a lot of courage but here you are stepping in the direction of healing. I would like to support you in this process of self-exploration and rebuilding trust. Compassion and gentle challenges within a safe, confidential and warm environment can be vital in bringing sustainable transformation- from surviving to thriving.

We all know life can get tough at times and we can struggle to see our way through it. Sometimes it helps to talk those experiences or feelings through with someone who can really listen and brings no agenda with them. There are so many reasons to come to therapy difficult times in life, things feeling not quite right, anxiety or
depression
or things from our past effecting us in the here and now (attachment or trauma). Therapy is a safe, neutral place you can use to explore what is happening for you, and it can support you in deciding how you want to manage it.

Hello, I have been practising counselling and psychotherapy in North Wales and West Cheshire for twelve years. Over time I have worked with a diverse group of clients who come to see me about anxiety, stress,
depression
and low mood, and addictions. During this time years I have developed a speciality in trauma: this might be experienced as PTSD however one understands it, or it can be an event or series of events that just will not leave the person alone, will not give them peace. I have learned methods and interventions that help clients to effectively get over this and the other issues that I have mentioned above.

Asking for help is not easy but making that first step can feel really positive. I am an experienced BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and work to help people (including children and young people) who are experiencing a range of issues including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, OCD,
depression
, as well as low self-esteem and other difficulties. My experience as an art psychotherapist draws upon psychodynamic theory, sensorimotor art therapy, cognitive approaches, and trauma-informed practice, so you can address emotional issues, trauma, anxiety,
depression
, physical or emotional pain, and adverse childhood experiences in an effective way.
Welcome to you and thank you for reaching out. It is a brave step to seek support. I will work with you to create a safe space where you feel comfortable and supported. It takes courage to work on your lived experiences and first we'll create safety in the therapeutic relationship so you can explore what is troubling you. Maybe you do not have words for your experiences and would feel safer exploring with art materials before you are able to say what is on your mind. Art therapy is a container for previously unmanageable emotions and painful thoughts or experiences which are often stored in the body as tension, stress or overwhelm.

We all need to talk to someone at times, right now life is extremely difficult for many of us! Talking issues through is often the best way to deal with our conflicting emotions. I specialise in
depression
, anxiety, and weight management, along with mid-life transitions and relationship counseling. I believe talking to someone totally unconnected to the problem can help clients see their situation through fresh eyes. I use a combination of therapies to help clients restructure their lives and issues. I am based in a private location in South Cheshire. I also have clients based around the globe via video. Discretion is paramount!

We all experience difficult times in our lives, suffering anxiety,
depression
, stress, anger, relationship issues, grief, bereavement, physical illness, emotional/physical abuse, low mood, and low motivation, to name just a few of the reasons people come to therapy. At times we will feel like we don’t want to ‘burden’ people with how we feel so we try to push through and carry on, we try to pretend all is ok, we try and cope by putting on a smile and a brave face, often we simply find we are unable to move forward and feel stuck.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
