It may be that the coping skills that you have always relied on are no longer working for you. It may be that you feel ready to learn more about yourself and your place in the world. I understand how you may be feeling. I am here to listen to you, to support you and to provide you with a safe space for you to explore your life story, and empower you in improving your emotional wellbeing.

The issues that counsellors face are often complex and deeply personal. My experience of over 10 years in private practice and a third sector organisation has shown me the importance of each person deciding on their own needs and finding their own way through the issues they bring.

We all know life can get tough at times and we can struggle to see our way through it. Sometimes it helps to talk those experiences or feelings through with someone who can really listen and brings no agenda with them. There are so many reasons to come to therapy difficult times in life, things feeling not quite right, anxiety or depression or things from our past effecting us in the here and now (attachment or trauma). Therapy is a safe, neutral place you can use to explore what is happening for you, and it can support you in deciding how you want to manage it.

Welcome to you and thank you for reaching out. It is a brave step to seek support. I will work with you to create a safe space where you feel comfortable and supported. It takes courage to work on your lived experiences and first we'll create safety in the therapeutic relationship so you can explore what is troubling you. Maybe you do not have words for your experiences and would feel safer exploring with art materials before you are able to say what is on your mind. Art therapy is a container for previously unmanageable emotions and painful thoughts or experiences which are often stored in the body as tension, stress or overwhelm.

Hello there, I’m Hefina. I have, for the past 10 years, had the privilege of providing a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space to people of all ages, a place to share whatever they choose allowing me to help them through difficult times in their lives. The practice I have adopted, is core to me as a person, and as a practitioner, is that, the person knows what they are experiencing and they are the experts of their own lives. My place is to follow my clients to help them find the answers and a way forward that best suits them.

Making sense of life can be challenging at times. We might find ourselves contemplating if we are causing ourselves unnecessary unhappiness, or if this is just the way things are? Or, wondering if I should just keep sticking at 'it', or is it time for things to change? We might question if our feelings are important? (They might overwhelm us!) Or should I just listen to my thoughts instead? Should we try to forget about the past, or is it helpful to understand it? Might we be living our lives in 'survival mode' when we could be 'thriving' instead?

Asking for help is not easy but making that first step can feel really positive. I am an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and work to help people (including children and young people) who are experiencing a range of issues including anxiety, OCD, depression, low self-esteem, sleep problems, and phobias. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, especially the way unhelpful thoughts lead to and maintain distressing feelings and behaviours that can be a problem for some people and their families.

I know how important it is to look after our emotional well being irrespective of age. Stresses, strains and anxieties can hit at anytime. It maybe a current situation or something from our past which impacts on our ability to manage our current situation. Even anticipation of future events can impact on us at an emotional level. There are many reasons why counselling can be beneficial including low self-esteem, low self-confidence, bullying, family issues, bereavement, infant loss, relationship issues, and anger to name but a few, It takes strength and courage to acknowledge you may need help.

My clients come to me from all walks of life and have experienced trauma recently and/or in the past. This has resulted in my clients suffering from intense anxiety and fears and/or severe depression as well as relationship difficulties. My clients can feel stuck, vulnerable and helpless, which has such a disabling impact on their lives. I have the ability to initiate and maintain a confidential therapeutic relationship, where my clients feel safe, experience hope and a reduction of their psychological symptoms. My clients leave therapy feeling empowered and able to manage life's stresses.

Teen Counsellors
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Chester and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
