I have worked with hoarding, depression, post natal depression, abuse, sexual abuse, crime, stalking, relationship issues, family break downs, loneliness, anxiety and bullying to name just a few.
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist offering therapy on a one to one basis. I am a remember of the BACP and a student member of the BPS. I have been working in this field for 7 years, and teaching counselling for 5 years. I believe the two most important factors are that you feel comfortable with me and that we work safely. This is why I offer a free 30 minute assessment. You can meet me, we assess if I’m right for you and we go from there. I work with a person centred approach, psychodynamic approach, transactional analysis, existentialism and CBT. Teaching helps me by consistently staying up to date on new techniques

My clients are adults and teens who want to understand themselves more deeply. You might be feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed or burnt out, struggling in relationships or at work, or carrying the impact of difficult past experiences. Some are exploring possible neurodivergence or adjusting to an ADHD or autism diagnosis. Together we slow things down, make sense of patterns in your life, and explore new ways of relating to yourself and others so you can move forward with more clarity and choice.

Hi, my name is Marina, and I am a Gestalt Counsellor (MBACP) working at different locations across London, including South West (Clapham), South East (Crystal Palace), central London (St Pancras) and online. The idea of starting therapy can be daunting and finding the right therapist can feel bewildering, especially in moments of fragility and vulnerability. In addition to that, while some clients have a precise idea of what they want to work on, others are not clear about what it is that is not working. In both cases therapy can be a space to set some dedicated time aside with a professional to find perspective and clarity.

You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or quietly burnt out, as though you are constantly managing, masking or holding things together. Your mind might feel busy or intense, emotions hard to make sense of, or relationships more draining than they should be. You may be neurodivergent, work in a creative field, or simply feel different or misunderstood. What you want is not to be fixed, but to feel understood, calmer and more connected to yourself, with space to make sense of what is happening for you now and find a steadier way forward.

You might be coping with the aftermath of a breakup or divorce, feeling stuck in your work or family relationships, or maybe you are managing the impact of painful experiences from earlier in life.
My approach is thoughtful and empathetic, with a focus on identifying the deep-rooted emotional patterns that influence how we think and feel about ourselves and others. This work can be challenging, but also deeply meaningful. At its centre is a trusting, collaborative and supportive relationship that enables insight and change to emerge over time.

Life can feel difficult; especially now when the world can feel scary and navigating relationships or life in general can feel hard. In these moments talking openly can be very powerful, easing and reduce troubling thoughts. This could be through exploring patterns of behaviour, responses to emotional situations or ways of being in relationships. Perhaps you’re feeling anxious, upset, low, overwhelmed by negative feelings, struggling in your relationships, recovering from trauma or just stuck? Either as an individual or as a partner in a relationship having a space to explore and understand yourself better can be really helpful.

FAQ - About Family Therapy
What issues does family therapy help with?
Family therapy can help families navigate the complex dynamics of family life, including communication challenges and recurring conflict between family members. A therapist can help family members identify dysfunctional patterns in communication and develop healthier ways of relating. Family therapy may also be helpful during major life transitions or stressful events that affect the family system, such as grief, divorce, trauma, relocation, or a serious illness. In some cases, family therapy can support families coping with specific mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance use disorders, and eating disorders. In these situations, therapy can provide education and support to family members, as well as to the individual with the mental health diagnosis.

How do I know if my family needs counselling?
Family therapy may be helpful if a family consistently struggles with conflict or communication in a way that affects daily life or relationships. It can also be beneficial when someone in the family is experiencing significant emotional or behavioural changes, such as a family member becoming aggressive, withdrawing, or struggling to cope after a traumatic event. Additionally, some concerns, such as addiction or eating disorders, may be especially important to address in the context of the family unit.

Who attends family counselling sessions?
Family counselling sessions are often attended by members of the immediate family, such as parents, caregivers, children, or siblings. However, other family members may attend when appropriate, including grandparents, stepparents, stepsiblings, or co-parents. Who attends may depend on the family’s needs, the therapist’s recommendations, and the goals of treatment.

Can family therapy be done online?
Family therapy can often be done online. Virtual sessions may be especially convenient when family members live in different locations, have busy schedules, or live in a rural area or part of the country where family therapists are less accessible. However, online therapy may not be the best fit for every family. In-person care may be more appropriate when there are safety concerns, severe conflict, limited privacy at home, or when young children have difficulty engaging through a screen.

What therapeutic approaches are used in family counselling?
Family therapy can take different forms, including systemic family therapy (exploring how individual actions affect the family), structural family therapy (uncovering the structure and relationship dynamics of the family unit), and attachment-based family therapy (focusing on how bonds between family members shape relationships). Family therapy may also include psychoeducation, which helps family members learn more about a mental health condition and how to respond to it more effectively.

How much does family therapy cost and is it covered by insurance?
Family therapy sessions, which typically last about 50 minutes to an hour, often range from around £75 to £150 or more, depending on factors such as location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. Family therapy often costs more than individual therapy because it involves multiple participants and more complex treatment planning. The NHS may cover family therapy, but access is often subject to local availability and waiting times. As a result, many families pay privately or use private health insurance or employee assistance benefits, if available. Before starting therapy, it is important to confirm how you will pay for sessions and whether family therapy is covered, which provider types are eligible, whether a referral is required, and whether there are limits on the number of sessions. ****
