Hiya, I'm Amy. I believe counselling can be a powerful resource for everyone, though I know that reaching out can sometimes feel a bit daunting. That’s why I offer a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you’re free to share what’s on your mind, entirely at your own pace. Counselling isn’t about quick fixes or easy answers, it’s about making space for the complex, sometimes confusing, human stuff. Counselling can be hard, I won't pretend that it is not without discomfort. The power in it is that when you understand and grow in how you relate to your own self, you can extend that out to the benefit of yourself and others.

Being human can feel incredibly challenging at times. Life has a way of presenting us with challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, depressed, anxious or feeling stuck. There comes a point where we need someone else to help see ourselves clearly. Someone who is able to really listen beyond the words, beyond the stories, to the truth of it all. It is in this space that clarity emerges, new perspectives and possibilities can unfold. Therapy offers exactly this, a confidential, supportive container for self-exploration.

I work with people living with addiction, trauma, and the cycles that keep them stuck. This is a space for honesty without judgement, where nothing is too messy to talk about. Together, we explore the pain beneath addictive behaviour, challenge the patterns that feed it, and find ways to break its hold. My trauma-informed, person-centred approach means we go at your pace, building strength, awareness, and trust along the way. This isn’t about quick fixes – it’s about creating real, lasting change that feels possible and sustainable.

Hello, I’m Lara, I am an integrative counsellor and incorporate both person-centred and psychodynamic techniques. The person-centred approach creates a nurturing environment for personal growth, much like providing a plant with the right conditions—soil, water, light, and nutrients—so it can thrive. Similarly, in therapy, we create a supportive space that allows you to grow and flourish. The psychodynamic approach focuses on how unconscious thoughts and past experiences shape current feelings and behaviours. By understanding these influences, you can gain clarity, self-awareness, and a sense of control over your life.

Hello. As an experienced psychotherapist, I can help you manage current life challenges like sudden changes or losses; anxiety; relationship issues; bereavement; loneliness; parenthood; depression or past experiences intruding on your present. Sometimes clients come with a more general sense of unfulfilment or want to know themselves better. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space to share your load, rather than carrying it alone. Psychotherapy offers vital connection, support and opportunity to work things through with an empathic, trained professional totally unconnected to your life.

Welcome to my profile. I hope you find the support you need, whether with me or another counsellor. For those who have taken that important step, I enjoy working alongside and celebrating with them when improvements in their mental health begin to show. This can involve getting to the root causes of symptoms, which is typically connected with 'what has happened to you'. We are shaped by our past, which is key to our understanding of 'self'. By giving attention to the feelings that play out in the present we can learn how to take back control of our emotions to live a better life, including in how we relate to self and others.

I work with whoever comes to me but also have special interest in the following groups: Women who may have a nagging feeling that life could be more beautiful. They may feel trapped by past choices or have experienced a wake-up call or final straw such as a bereavement, relationship difficulties, or peri-menopause or menopause difficulties. Teenagers who feel overwhelmed with life. Trainee counsellors who may be looking forward to therapy, or perhaps feel nervous about what the training is bringing up. I also work with groups teaching Creative Journalling for Wellbeing in order for them to develop their own unique practice for life.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
