Are you struggling with the stresses and strains that family, friendship, and/ or work life can bring and unsure what to do? Life is not always easy or straightforward, our lives can become challenging at times, causing us to feel overwhelmed with an array of complex emotions which can have an impact on our daily lives. Very often we don’t have someone that we can completely share our innermost thoughts and feelings with so having someone who is a trained professional, allows the opportunity to open up and confide in. I trust that I am able to provide a safe, non-judgemental space to work collaboratively with you.

It's OK to not be OK. Whatever you're going through, counselling can help. We all have a past, a present, and a future. Our past can affect our present and our present can affect our future. Whether your past is causing issues here and now, or if you are currently experiencing difficulties now that may affect your future, you are not alone. I am trained and qualified in various techniques and use an integrative approach - using a combination of techniques, tailored to meet the needs of each individual. This is the most effective way to get positive results.

I have 16 years experience as a senior specialist psychotherapist in the NHS. My approach to both psychological and physiological suffering is to help patients work through their often long-standing personal difficulties, whilst promoting self-acceptance and committed action. An assumption I bring to my clinical practice is that most people want to live their lives in a direction of their choosing and in a way that reflects their personal values. As a therapist, my main focus is on those things that keep us 'stuck', that make it difficult for us to feel connected to the people and things that matter to us.

I can help if you think about life changes, such as considering marriage, divorce, retirement, career change or if you are trying to cope with grief and loss. If you are suffering with depression, anxiety, struggling with difficult thoughts and feelings, have a personal or relationship problem to sort out, you are invited to phone or email to make an appointment. I work with people who want to understand their behavior, emotions and thoughts. Working with me is discovering how the past and the old relationships affect activities and present intimate relationships. I provide help in Polish and English. Confidentiality is assured.

Psychoanalytic Counsellors
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
