Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and we just do not know where to start, or maybe you feel something is holding you back in life and just cannot put your finger on it. Counselling can provide a space for you to explore difficult experiences, cope with life's transitions or work with a specific issue such as psychological trauma, PTSD, relationship breakdown, changes to your health, or a bereavement. Counselling can enable emotional healing and leave you feeling you are living and experiencing the world, rather than existing.
My experience in secondary schools working with children and young people has given me an understanding of how challenging life can be for our children. Often parents/carers find themselves feeling helpless as they see their child experience anxiety, low self esteem, self harm, isolation, suicidal ideation... I have been a practicing counsellor for children and young people in schools, agency settings and in private practice for over 5 years. My specialist qualification is in children and young people and I am an accredited member of the BACP demonstrating a higher standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner.
I have over 30 years experience working with children and adolescents in various settings. I have worked on an adolescent inpatient unit at the Priory hospital, CAMHS, pupil referral units, youth offending and currently for Five River Childcare in fostering. I also run a private practice for children, adolescents, parents and adults alongside delivering training's to teachers, social workers and carers for local councils.
Life is difficult at the best of times but we are living through exceptional circumstances at the moment, which is creating stress and anxiety in many people. Where normally you could cope with issues, the pressure now is affecting people's emotional and mental health. If you can identify with this and feel you need some extra support in the way of counselling then please contact me. Together we can begin to explore your unique situation and whatever issue you feel you need support with. This will be at your pace, in a safe and secure environment and in a non-judgemental way. You will be treated with kindness, empathy and respect.
You've already made a great step - you look for help. I know looking for a support can be both overwhelming and daunting. I want to create a confidential, non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself. I'm here to help you in exploring your strengths and create new skills to let you be an independent individual, where none of the external factor will have an impact on your self-esteem. I'm also integrally trained to provide a holistic insight into the situation.
This may be your first time seeking support from a counsellor, or you may have already experienced counselling before. Either way, I understand that looking for the right counsellor can sometimes feel a little daunting. I would like to reassure you that what ever it is that's troubling you, you don’t have to do it alone. We would work through your counselling journey together and at your own pace.
Hello, my name is Kerry Johnson and I am qualified in Counselling and Psychotherapy and have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have helped multiple clients through the use of counselling and I am also a registered member of the BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I have also worked a lot with children and young people in both mainstream and SEN as a teacher and support worker prior to and during my counselling training.
We all have a past, a present, and a future. Our past can affect our present and our present can affect our future. Whether your past is causing issues here and now, or if you are currently experiencing difficulties now that may affect your future, you are not alone. I am trained in various techniques and use an integrative approach - using a combination of techniques, tailored to meet the needs of each individual. This is the most effective way to get positive results.

I am a Chartered Health Psychologist, practicing for over 8 years within NHS funded services. I have a special interest in disordered eating such as binge or emotional eating, and am passionate about assisting people on their journey to a healthy relationship with food, fitness and their bodies. I help people with most issues that relate to health behaviour change or the psychology of health and illness including: improving nutrition, disordered eating and body image, improving physical activity levels, managing stress, adapting to long term health conditions such as diabetes, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol or drug use.
I try to make therapy as available to as many people as I possible can. The cost of therapy can be quite steep so I keep my prices as low as I can so that more can access it. Therapy is about getting to where you want to be by making your own unique road map, so that you can use it again in the future if need be. I'm an Addiction Psychologist by trade, with 18 years of private practise behind me, but a lot of my work is helping many different age groups with problems such as OCD and PTSD etc. Please feel free to contact me and we can have a chat to see if i can be any help to you.

Life can be unpredictable and often things are put in our paths that have an impact on our psychological & Emotional wellbeing. Sometimes these issues can take their toll and cause us pain and suffering, partly due to pushing them to the back of our minds, bottling up or just trying to ignore them in the hope they may just go away. Quite often we try to maintain a brave face and show the world that we can cope, but the reality is, when we ignore difficult experiences, feelings and thoughts they are trapped inside. Never really disappearing, they stay just in the background within continuing to impact our view of self & our world.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Chelmsford are psychologists, licensed counsellors, therapists, and psychotherapists, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualised treatment.
Services offered, education, and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Chelmsford then may specialise in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counselling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.
Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.
How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in Chelmsford, or Child Psychologists in Chelmsford.
Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like Chelmsford psychologists specialising in EMDR.
What method of therapy is right for me?
