With over 10 years of experience, I specialise in working with teens and their struggles. The teenage years can be some of the hardest, as we find our place in a confusing world. I prioritise building skills and resiliency that will support you through your life. Starting a counselling journey is not a sign of weakness—it is one of the bravest steps a person can take. In a world that often tells us to "keep going," "stay strong," or "just get over it," choosing to pause, sit with your thoughts, and seek understanding is a radical act of self-respect.

A big part of my work is with adults who have suffered adverse childhood experiences or childhood emotional neglect. If this is you and you feel that you are struggling to cope because you are still carrying around the childhood adaptations you used to protect yourself, traits such as people pleasing, being afraid to try, afraid to use your voice, perfectionism traits, not being able to take criticism to name but a few. I have seen people turn their lives around when they have addressed these issues so if this speaks to you please contact me for a consultation. Don't let your past ruin your future it doesn't have to be this way.

Hi, I’m Frank. If you are looking at this area on Psychology Today, I suspect that you are thinking about counselling. From my own personal experience, I can say that counselling changed my life, allowed me to find myself & grow into my authentic self. I believe that we can all benefit from having a space where we can talk and air our thoughts and feelings in a non judgemental space and be supported. I am a fully qualified counsellor who trained in intergrative counselling at a BACP accredited college back in 2012.

I am a counsellor and psychotherapist who works with you as an individual, to meet your specific needs. I keep my client numbers low in order to really get to know you and work to meet your needs. I use counselling skills, CBT, and solution focused therapy to help you to raise your awareness and achieve the goals and outcomes you want and need. Together we can make a plan and set goals to get you to where you want to be, with new insights and understanding. We can work at your pace, in bite sized chunks. I use worksheets and articles for you to explore relevant topics between sessions, to keep that motivation flowing.

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to shift no matter how much you try to think your way through them? Understanding can help, but it doesn’t always change how things feel day to day. You may have already tried to work things through on your own, but still feel stuck. In our work, we look at the patterns behind how you feel. Not just why they’re there, but how they continue to affect you. Talking therapy can help you explore and make sense of your experience. I also draw on CBT and EMDR, which work more directly with patterns, behaviours, and past experiences.

I believe every person’s experience is valid and deserving of care. You might come to counselling feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of why things feel heavy, or you may arrive wanting to gently explore past experiences, trauma, or long-held patterns that no longer serve you. You may have clear reasons for seeking support, or you may simply know that something doesn’t feel right and want a space to explore that without pressure or judgment. My role is to offer a safe, compassionate, and accepting space that adapts to what you need, where you are met as you are, at your own pace.

You might be here because you feel stuck — in behaviour patterns, in relationships, or in your own head. Or maybe you're trying to make sense of how your mind works, especially if you're autistic or have ADHD. You may just want to better understand yourself and live in a way that supports your needs, in your life and relationships. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I work with adults who want to move beyond understanding “why”. For some, that means letting go of the mask and others’ expectations. For others, it’s valuing themselves enough to set boundaries in relationships. You may not know what you want yet and that's ok.

Are you feeling anxious, depressed, stressed, insecure, or overwhelmed by your emotions? Or are you looking for someone who will listen and be non judgemental and to whom you can talk in confidence about issues that are bothering you that would be difficult to share with friends or family members? Your feelings may be related to a bereavement or loss, the effects of abuse, relationship issues, or a major life change or may be related to something unresolved from the past. You may also be seeking support in setting goals and moving on in a positive way. These (and others) are areas in which I am well experienced.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
