You may be seeking support with anxiety, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, shame, low mood, self-criticism or life changes.
I work as an integrative counsellor, which means our sessions are shaped around you rather than a fixed therapy model. I draw on person-centred counselling, Gestalt therapy and Transactional Analysis where they are useful, but the focus is always on what helps you understand yourself and move forward. My way of working is relational and collaborative.

I also work with people experiencing bereavement & loss.
Hi, I'm Nicola. You are here because something isn’t going well in your life & the way that makes you feel isn't something you want to continue tolerating. It takes a lot to challenge familiar patterns because even when we dislike them they can feel safer than change. But my boundaried, thoughtful counselling can support you on your journey to understand what underlies your issues & work out what to do about it.

I help with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, and relationship challenges.
Life can be hard at times, and you may find yourself struggling with painful emotions, anxiety, or a difficult relationship with yourself. You might feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure why things feel so heavy, even if you can’t point to one clear reason. People come to see me for many different reasons, but often with a shared sense that something in their inner world or relationships has become painful or hard to navigate alone. I aim to offer a calm, thoughtful space where we can slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and explore your experience at a pace that feels right for you.

We can find ways towards acceptance of the loss or change of a wished-for future or identity, whether through loss of part of the self through illness or disability, or of a loved other (person or pet) - we hold this grief in our bodies, but in recognising the feelings, we can change the stories that we attach to them and take control of our futures.
Seeking help, as you are doing by searching this site, is a brave and important step in satisfying your own needs. Our task is to find ways to feel safe whilst getting in touch with difficult and unpleasant feelings and emotions held in your body, to allow you to continue making the positive changes you want in your life. Our work is to seek confidence in your ability to continue and control this process. You have already shown that you can think outside of your difficulty and adapt in order to change: Let's work together to work out what these changes could be.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
